DATA ENGINEER

About the role

S P Setia Berhad is seeking a skilled and innovative Data Engineer to join our growing technology team on a full-time basis in Setia Alam, Selangor. This is a pivotal role that will contribute to the development and management of our data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation. As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data systems that support our business objectives and drive strategic growth.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure accurate and timely data delivery
• Build and optimise databases and data warehouses to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Implement data quality assurance processes and monitoring systems to ensure data integrity and reliability
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, providing timely support to end users and technical teams
• Document data architecture, processes, and systems to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational continuity
• Optimise database performance and query efficiency to support high-volume data processing
• Stay current with emerging data technologies and industry best practices, recommending improvements to existing systems

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience in database development and administration, with hands-on expertise in SQL and relational databases
• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience with ETL tools and frameworks, including data integration platforms and pipeline orchestration
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, with experience in cloud-based data solutions
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar distributed processing frameworks
• Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data modelling, and database design patterns
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with complex, large-scale datasets
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
• Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable
• Certifications in cloud platforms or data engineering tools would be advantageous
