About the role
S P Setia Berhad is seeking a skilled and innovative Data Engineer to join our growing technology team on a full-time basis in Setia Alam, Selangor. This is a pivotal role that will contribute to the development and management of our data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation. As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data systems that support our business objectives and drive strategic growth.
Key responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure accurate and timely data delivery
Build and optimise databases and data warehouses to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives
Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Implement data quality assurance processes and monitoring systems to ensure data integrity and reliability
Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, providing timely support to end users and technical teams
Document data architecture, processes, and systems to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational continuity
Optimise database performance and query efficiency to support high-volume data processing
Stay current with emerging data technologies and industry best practices, recommending improvements to existing systems
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
Proven experience in database development and administration, with hands-on expertise in SQL and relational databases
Strong proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala
Experience with ETL tools and frameworks, including data integration platforms and pipeline orchestration
Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, with experience in cloud-based data solutions
Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar distributed processing frameworks
Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data modelling, and database design patterns
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with complex, large-scale datasets
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable
Certifications in cloud platforms or data engineering tools would be advantageous
