Description

About this role

Your team

This role sits within Preqin, part of BlackRock, and is aligned to the Derived Data team.

Preqin is a leading provider of private markets data and analytics, delivering trusted data, benchmarks, and insights that support decision-making across the private markets investment lifecycle. Derived Data develops high-quality data products and scalable technology solutions that increase transparency and enable data-driven decision-making across private markets. Your work will contribute directly to BlackRock’s strategy of delivering integrated public and private market solutions.

Your role and impact

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable, production-grade data platforms and pipelines that support the development of innovative private markets data products.

As a Vice President within the Derived Data team, you will be a hands-on senior individual contributor, responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying complex data engineering solutions. You will own end-to-end technical delivery, from architecture and implementation through to production support, while influencing architectural decisions and driving engineering best practices.

You will develop reusable data engineering frameworks and shared capabilities that improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability across the team. Working closely with engineering, product, analytics, and business stakeholders, you will deliver reliable, maintainable data solutions while upholding high standards of engineering excellence, data quality, and operational reliability.

Through hands-on technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and mentoring, you will contribute to the technical development of the wider team. Your work will improve the quality, reliability, and accessibility of private markets data, enabling better analytics and decision-making for clients while supporting BlackRock's broader strategy to deliver leading technology and data solutions across private markets.

Your responsibilities

In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

  • Architect, build, and own scalable, production-grade data platforms and pipelines, solving complex technical challenges from design and implementation through to deployment and production support.
  • Lead architectural decisions and influence technical prioritisation, balancing performance, cost efficiency, and long-term maintainability while ensuring reliability and alignment with business objectives.
  • Design and develop reusable data engineering frameworks, shared datasets, and extensible pipelines supporting multiple projects and use cases across the team.
  • Embed data quality, governance, lineage, and observability into data engineering solutions through robust testing, monitoring, and operational controls.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand business needs, align technical solutions with strategic priorities, and deliver measurable business value.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring fellow engineers and defining and driving the adoption of high engineering standards and best practices across the team.

Your experience

  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating scalable, production-grade data platforms and pipelines, with the ability to independently own complex solutions from architecture and implementation through deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Advanced SQL and analytical data modelling skills, with experience designing reliable datasets and embedding data quality, governance, lineage, testing, monitoring, and operational controls.
  • Strong Python and software engineering skills, including reusable component design, version control, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, code review, and maintainable production-quality code.
  • Experience with modern data transformation frameworks such as dbt, developing modular and reusable models with automated testing and documentation.
  • Experience developing and operating production workflows using directed acyclic graph-based workflow orchestration frameworks for data and batch processing, including dependency management, monitoring, failure handling, and operational resilience.
  • Experience building cloud-based data solutions using platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure and modern data warehouses such as Snowflake, with consideration for performance, scalability, cost, security, and access controls.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, influence technical decisions, share knowledge, and mentor others; experience with financial or private markets data, regulated environments, or data solutions supporting advanced analytics and artificial intelligence or machine learning (AI/ML) is beneficial.
