Data Engineering & Data Governance Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a Manager – Data Governance & Risk to lead initiatives that strengthen how data is governed, managed and used across the organization while enabling informed, risk-based decision making.

This role sits at the intersection of Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality and Risk Management. The ideal candidate should have strong experience governing enterprise data and practical exposure to identifying risks, evaluating controls and recommending mitigation actions related to data, information or business processes.

The role requires a solid understanding of modern data platforms and analytics, but it is not a Data Engineering or software development position.

You will partner with Data Engineering, Architecture, Information Security, Risk and Business teams to ensure data is reliable, properly governed and managed in accordance with risk, control and compliance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement Data Governance practices, operating models and standards.
  • Assess risks associated with data assets, data quality, data usage and the data lifecycle.
  • Evaluate existing controls and recommend improvements or mitigation actions where needed.
  • Challenge Data Engineering and business teams regarding data quality, lineage, ownership and control effectiveness.
  • Define data quality metrics, governance standards and monitoring practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data management and governance processes.
  • Identify data-related risks and translate them into clear business impact.
  • Support remediation of data quality, governance or control issues.
  • Partner with Risk, Information Security, Data Engineering, Architecture and Business teams.
  • Design executive dashboards, risk reporting and governance metrics.
  • Support data-driven decision making through analytics, reporting and risk-based recommendations.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Information Governance or related data functions, with meaningful exposure to Risk Management or Controls.
  • Experience defining or implementing Data Governance frameworks, operating models or standards.
  • Experience working with metadata, data lineage, data stewardship, data catalog and/or data quality.
  • Practical experience identifying risks related to data, information or processes and recommending controls or mitigation actions.
  • Understanding of fundamental risk concepts such as likelihood, impact, controls, inherent risk and residual risk.
  • Experience collaborating with Data Engineering, Architecture, Risk, Security and Business teams.
  • Experience working with large-scale enterprise data environments.
  • Experience translating analytical, governance or risk findings into executive recommendations.
  • Experience working with international stakeholders.
  • Advanced English, with the ability to hold technical conversations and present findings to US-based teams.

The candidate is not expected to build data pipelines or develop software, but should understand how these platforms fit within an enterprise data ecosystem.

Ideal Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates coming from Data Governance, Data Management, Data Office, Data Quality or Data Analytics teams who have worked closely with Risk, Controls, Compliance, Audit or Information Security.

Experience in risk may come from Data Risk, IT Risk, Operational Risk, Enterprise Risk or Financial Risk. A traditional Cyber GRC background is not required.

  • Pure Data Engineers
  • Pure Data Scientists
  • Software Development profiles
  • Traditional Cyber GRC profiles with limited Data Governance or Data Management experience
