About the RoleOur client, a leading Australian university, is building out their institutional data governance program. They're seeking an experienced Data Governance Analyst to join their Advanced Analytics Planning & Enterprise Data team.
You'll be responsible for implementing and embedding data governance practices across priority domains, working within a small, focused governance team. This is a high-impact role that combines process design, stakeholder management and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and maintenance of data governance standards, processes and procedures.
- Run working groups and stewardship meetings with data owners, stewards and technical teams.
- Identify, document and help close data governance gaps (e.g., critical data elements without stewards, missing classifications).
- Support onboarding of data stewards and new data products.
- Maintain governance documentation, records and artefacts in Collibra or equivalent tools.
- Develop guidance materials, training content and communications to build data stewardship capability.
- Report on governance progress, risks and issues to the Data Governance Lead.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of governance processes and tools
About You
Essential
- Minimum 4 years' experience in data governance, data management or related field in a large, complex organisation.
- Working knowledge of data governance concepts (classification, metadata, stewardship, data quality).
- Strong stakeholder communication skills; ability to explain governance concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent attention to detail - comfort with documentation-heavy work.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a small team
Desirable
- Experience within the university or higher education sector.
- Hands-on experience with Collibra or equivalent data governance tools.
- Understanding of NSW privacy and records legislation or broader data protection principles.
- Tertiary qualification in information management, business, IT or related field
The Details
- Rate: $900 - $944/day + superannuation
- Work arrangement: 2 days in office (Sydney) / 3 days remote
- Contract: To 18th December 2026 with likely extensions
- Start date: ASAP
