SUMMARY
The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for establishing and maintaining enterprise data governance practices that ensure data is secure, trusted, and responsibly used across the organization. This role focuses on data access controls, security standards, retention policies, and stewardship frameworks that support analytics, reporting, operational decision‑making, and future artificial intelligence initiatives. As a key member of the Data Strategy team, the Data Governance Analyst partners closely with data engineering, analytics architecture, IT security, compliance, and business stakeholders to embed governance and security into the data lifecycle by design. The role plays a central part in enabling broader data access while reducing organizational risk and ensuring long‑term trust in enterprise data assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Promotes the culture, the mission and vision, and the core values of the company. This includes adherence to and promotion of the company safety beliefs, employee engagement, competencies, code of conduct, and other policies and procedures.
- Data Access, Security, and Privacy Management
- Defines, implement, and maintains enterprise standards for data access, including role‑based access control and least‑privilege principles.
- Partners with IT and security teams to ensure data access aligns with internal security policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards.
- Monitors and periodically reviews user access to enterprise data assets to identify potential risks, inappropriate access, or policy gaps.
- Supports secure data sharing practices across business units while maintaining appropriate controls for sensitive or regulated data.
- Data Governance Framework & Stewardship
- Establishes and supports a formal enterprise data governance framework, including data ownership, stewardship responsibilities, and escalation paths.
- Defines criteria for trusted and certified enterprise data assets used for analytics, reporting, and operational decision‑making.
- Partners with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure governance requirements are embedded into data design, development, and delivery processes.
- Promotes consistent governance standards across regions, business domains, and functional teams.
- Data Retention & Lifecycle Management
- Defines and maintains enterprise data retention, archival, and disposal policies in alignment with legal, regulatory, and business requirements.
- Ensure data lifecycle practices are clearly documented and consistently applied across enterprise data assets.
- Support audits, reviews, and compliance activities related to data security, retention, and privacy obligations.
- Documentation, Transparency, and Trust Enablement
- Ensures enterprise data assets are properly documented, including definitions, ownership, sensitivity, and intended use.
- Supports documentation of data lineage and data usage to improve transparency and confidence in analytics and reporting outputs.
- Creates and maintains governance standards, reference materials, and guidance to help users understand appropriate data usage.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborates closely with data engineering and analytics roles to balance governance rigor with usability and business enablement.
- Participates in cross‑training across DS disciplines to ensure shared understanding of data engineering, governance, and analytics design, while remaining accountable for governance outcomes.
- Continuously evaluates and recommends improvements to governance, security, and retention practices as data usage and organizational needs evolve.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in data governance, information security, data privacy, risk management, or compliance within an enterprise environment. Strong understanding of data access controls, security principles, and data protection concepts. Experience defining or supporting data governance frameworks, policies, or enterprise standards. Ability to work effectively across technical and business teams to align governance requirements with real‑world data usage. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
Preferred
Experience with data retention policies, records management, or information lifecycle management.
Familiarity with audit support, internal controls, or regulatory compliance related to data. Experience supporting analytics, reporting, or enterprise data environments in a governed setting. Experience working in a multi‑domain or global business environment. Demonstrated ability to balance risk management with data enablement and usability.
