Data Governance Lead

Salary: $180,000 + super

Role Overview
This role will define the vision, policies, standards, and operating model for data governance while partnering closely with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams.
You will play a critical role in ensuring data is trusted, well-managed, secure, and aligned with regulatory expectations from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures.
• Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models.
• Establish governance forums, operating model, and decision-making processes.
• Align governance strategy with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and embed data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring processes
• Implement data quality issue management and remediation workflows.
• Define controls to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness.
• Establish metadata management practices, including data catalogues and business glossaries.
• Implement data lineage standards to ensure transparency and traceability.
• Ensure compliance with financial services regulations and support audit readiness.
• Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Legal to embed governance controls.
• Evaluate and implement data governance tools and integrate with data platforms.
• Engage senior stakeholders and lead governance forums and working groups.
• Drive organisational adoption through training, communication, and culture change initiatives.

Required Skills:

• 6+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related disciplines.
• Proven experience building data governance frameworks from scratch (greenfield experience highly desirable)
• Strong knowledge of financial services regulatory environment preferred.
• Experience with data governance tools and platforms (eg. Collibra/Purview or Informatica/Ataccama)
• Deep understanding of data quality, metadata management, and data lifecycle management.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Experience working with data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, cloud platforms).
