Data Governance & Master Data Lead

Summary

On-site Data Governance & Master Data Lead embedded with a global renewable energy developer in London, responsible for designing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK aligned), owning MDM strategy, chairing governance committees, and leading a hybrid team using Informatica, SAP S/4HANA, SAP MDG, Collibra, and Microsoft Purview.

Salary: £47,000 - 83,000 per year

Requirements:
  • 10–15+ years in data governance and/or MDM within utilities, energy or another asset-heavy industry
  • Experience delivering enterprise data governance and MDM frameworks through to adoption, not just design
  • Hands-on experience with Informatica, Collibra, SAP MDG or Microsoft Purview
  • Strong experience in ERP and data platform environments, with SAP S/4HANA preferred
  • Deep understanding of data architecture across both IT and OT environments
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across global stakeholders
  • Experience managing hybrid teams of internal staff and outsourced experts
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Information Management, Data Science, Engineering or a related field
  • DAMA, CDMP or equivalent data governance certification is a plus
  • Renewable energy, utilities or infrastructure sector background is a plus
  • Experience with asset lifecycle systems, including EAM, SCADA integration and digital twins, is a plus
  • Experience standing up a governance function from zero rather than inheriting one is a plus
  • Exposure to AI-enabled governance and metadata management tooling is a plus
  • Experience chairing or running senior governance forums with genuine decision rights is a plus
  • Change management and enablement experience at organisational scale is a plus
  • Commercial acumen, including building and defending the ROI case for governance investment, is a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication across mixed technical and business audiences is a plus
Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement a Data Governance Framework aligned to DAMA-DMBOK, Gartner and leading utility practice
  • Build a federated operating model that scales globally while keeping accountability local
  • Establish Data Owners, Stewards and Custodians across business and IT with clear accountability
  • Chair the enterprise Data Governance Committee and drive alignment across functions
  • Develop and enforce policies and controls across data classification, privacy and lifecycle management
  • Cover ESG and energy regulatory reporting obligations and align to ISO, NIST and sector standards
  • Own enterprise MDM strategy across asset master data, customer and offtaker data, and supplier and vendor data
  • Establish the golden source across ERP, EAM and SCADA interfaces, starting with financial use cases
  • Run MDM platform selection and own implementation and adoption
  • Define and track KPIs across accuracy, completeness, consistency and timeliness
  • Put automated monitoring and remediation in place and lead root-cause analysis on systemic issues
  • Partner with Generation, O&M, Finance and Supply Chain to drive business accountability
  • Translate between technical teams and leadership so governance is adopted rather than just published
  • Lead the Master Data team, including internal staff and outsourced specialists
  • Manage external specialists and advisory partners, including scope, KPIs, deliverables and cost
  • Benchmark against leading energy and utility organisations and assess AI-enabled governance and metadata management platforms
