About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Manager to join our team! You’ll lead a team of a BI Developer, Senior Data Analyst and 2x Data Analysts, helping to shape a culture where data is trusted, understood and used effectively. You'll drive improvements in data quality and governance, ensuring our data is consistent, robust and fit for purpose.
You’ll provide technical leadership and ensure we have robust, well-managed datasets that provide a trusted foundation for reporting, insight and the wider use of data across the organisation. You’ll also play a key role in developing our predictive analytics and AI capabilities, helping us identify emerging risks, anticipate demand and better understand our customers.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading One Manchester's data management, governance and quality improvement programmes.
- Managing and developing a team of data professionals, setting priorities and supporting high performance.
- Establishing and embedding data standards, ownership, stewardship and controls across the organisation.
- Driving data quality monitoring, remediation and continuous improvement activity.
- Leading the development of predictive analytics, AI and sentiment modelling to support proactive decision-making and service planning.
- Providing assurance that organisational data is robust, compliant and fit for operational, regulatory and strategic use.
- Working closely with senior leaders, managers, IT colleagues and system owners to improve data management practices and resolve data issues at source.
- Ensuring effective controls, auditability and governance over production data and technical data solutions.
- Support the Assistant Director in managing budgets, priorities and resources across the IIP function.
What we’re looking for
We’re after someone who has:
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Experience leading and developing technical teams.
- A track record of delivering improvements in data quality, governance and data maturity.
- Experience using predictive analytics, forecasting or AI tools to support proactive business decision-making.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively at all levels.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to communicate complex information clearly.
- Knowledge of data governance, information management, data protection and security principles.
Desirable
- Experience within social housing, local government or another regulated environment.
- Knowledge of housing-related data domains.
- Experience with Power BI, Python, workflow automation or cloud-based data platforms.
- Familiarity with recognised data management frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK
- Experience of Data Strategy development and delivery.
Why join us?
We know that great services start with great people. That’s why we’re committed to creating a workplace where colleagues feel supported, valued and able to grow. Alongside meaningful work and opportunities to develop, you’ll also benefit from:
- 27 days’ annual leave when you join us, rising to 30 days after three years’ service, plus UK bank holidays
- the option to buy or sell annual leave through our holiday scheme
- a genuine approach to agile and flexible working, dependent on the role
- an excellent pension scheme with an 11.4% employer contribution through the Smart SHPS DC salary sacrifice scheme
- supportive people policies that help you balance work and life
- Medicash healthcare cash plan membership, with Level 1 cover paid by us
- a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
- Perkbox, our benefits platform giving you access to hundreds of discounts, benefits and wellbeing resources
- a Cycle to Work scheme through Halfords
- access to Manchester Credit Union for affordable financial support, including loans, savings accounts and money guidance
