Data Operations Manager
About us
OnTap Data is part of Jonas Software. Jonas Software acquires, manages, and grows industry-specific software companies globally, with over 6000 people and growing. That backing gives us the stability of a global group with the pace and autonomy of a specialist team.
For 25 years, OnTap Data has been the data engine behind the Australian liquor and retail sectors. Suppliers, wholesalers, retail buying groups, craft breweries and national distributors rely on us to consolidate their sales data, clean it, connect it and turn it into commercial intelligence they can act on. Our products cover every facet of the liquor industry, so you get to work across a broad suite rather than a single system.
The role
We are looking for a Data Operations Manager (12-month maternity leave contract) to own the accuracy, throughput and integrity of everything that flows through our data operation, and to lead the team that makes it happen.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set the standards, build the processes and coach the team; you will sit inside the data when volume spikes, onboardings get complex, or a discrepancy needs a decisive answer. If you like being the person who knows both how the numbers should behave and how to lead a team to make them behave that way, this is your role.
What you will do
Own the data
Oversee data entry, processing and maintenance across our platforms, ensuring accuracy, consistency and compliance
Build and enforce data quality checks and audits, and coach the team to run them well
Investigate and resolve data discrepancies, escalating with clarity when the issue sits with a supplier or client
Process and verify high volumes of sales data accurately and efficiently
Produce regular and ad hoc reporting that our clients and leadership use to make decisions
Safeguard data security and confidentiality in line with the Australian Privacy Act and our own high bar
Lead the team
Lead, mentor and motivate a high-performing operations team
Run regular 1-on-1s: feedback, goals, development, and the honest conversations when they are needed
Manage rosters, leave and workload distribution, including during periods of short staffing
Support recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members
Build a culture of continuous improvement where people look for the better way
Run the operation
Streamline day-to-day operations so throughput and quality both improve
Develop operational strategies, policies and procedures that scale
Track KPIs, read what they are telling you, and act on it
Lead cross-functional projects with sales, product and analytics through to delivery
Own the relationships
Act as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders and suppliers
Get ahead of client concerns, driving satisfaction and account retention
Onboard new clients: understand their data requirements and guide them on data management best practice
What you will bring
5+ years in data operations, with proven team leadership
Real fluency with data: entry, processing, validation, quality control and reporting, plus the judgement to know when a number looks wrong
Strong ability to interpret data and customer feedback and turn it into a decision
Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, with the composure to manage competing priorities
Advanced Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, plus experience with data management software
Proven track record building client and supplier relationships and running cross-functional projects
Experience in the liquor, beverage, FMCG or grocery sectors is highly desirable — or genuine curiosity about why a category moved, not just that it did.
Familiarity with scan data, sell-in versus sell-through reporting, promotional activity, trade spend, product hierarchies and outlet data
Experience with data onboarding, system integrations or migrations
