Data Product Owner - Accounting & Tax Data Architecture
Summary
TMF Group is hiring a Data Product Owner for Accounting & Tax Data Architecture: a senior role owning canonical financial data models, warehouse strategy, and data quality frameworks across GL, tax, and statutory reporting domains. Core needs are 7+ years in data architecture/product, GAAP/IFRS knowledge, SQL, and business-level Azure data platform familiarity.
Essential experience
- 7+ years in data architecture, data product management, or a senior data engineering role within a finance, tax, or ERP-adjacent environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing canonical or enterprise data models for financial domains (GL, subledger, tax, revenue, statutory reporting).
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS reporting requirements and their implications for data architecture.
- Experience owning or significantly contributing to data warehouse strategy, including technology selection and platform design.
- Proven track record of driving data quality frameworks — profiling, lineage, validation rules, and quality metrics — at enterprise scale.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments, translating business and regulatory requirements into technical data solutions.
Technical skills
- Proficiency in data modelling methodologies (dimensional, relational, and conceptual modelling).
- Ability to read and interpret data models (entity-relationship diagrams, canonical schemas, JSON/XML structures) without needing to write them.
- Familiarity with Azure data platform concepts at a business level – understanding what a data lake, data warehouse, or data pipeline does without requiring hands-on technical skill.
- Experience with data cataloguing or governance tools for managing business glossaries and data dictionaries.
- Comfortable working with SQL for data validation and ad hoc analysis – not expected to write production code, but able to interrogate data to validate product outputs.
Preffered
- Hands-on experience with data governance tooling — metadata management, data catalogues, and business glossaries (e.g. Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift) and modern data stack principles.
- Understanding of ERP and finance systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle Financials, Workday Financials) and their data structures.
- Familiarity with tax technology platforms (e.g. Vertex, Sovos, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE) is advantageous.
