Data Science Engineer

Salary: £130,000 - 143,000 per year

• Proven experience with classical machine learning models, including linear and logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, gradient boosting (XGBoost, LightGBM), SVMs, and clustering; able to explain model choices and alternatives considered.
• Strong proficiency in Python and its data and machine learning ecosystem, including pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn, with experience writing maintainable, production-quality code.
• Hands-on experience building, training, and deploying machine learning models on AWS, ideally using Amazon SageMaker.
• Practical experience with hyperparameter tuning and performance optimisation.
• Ability to explain MLOps metrics, such as model accuracy, precision and recall, data and concept drift, latency, and cost, and experience instrumenting models to monitor and improve production performance.

• Design, build, and validate classical machine learning models to solve business problems.
• Select appropriate algorithms and explain model choices to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Develop clean, well-tested, production-ready Python code.
• Build, train, and deploy models on AWS using Amazon SageMaker and related services.
• Tune model performance through hyperparameter optimisation, feature engineering, and error analysis.
• Instrument production models and define and track MLOps metrics, including accuracy, drift, latency, and throughput.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and product teams to take models from prototype to production.

We are seeking a hands-on ML/Data Science Engineer for an initial six-month contract, working on the full model lifecycle, from algorithm selection through tuning, deployment, and monitoring, using classical machine learning techniques. The role is based in Central London, with three days per week on-site, and pays £500–£550 per day inside IR35.
