AMT, an employee-owned engineering firm in Rockville, MD, is hiring its first Data Scientist to build AI/ML tools on internal business data — extracting information from proposals, contracts, and project records and building pipelines across ERP, CAD/GIS, and Microsoft 365 — using Python, SQL, and LLMs.

AMT, Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist to work out of our Rockville, MD office. You’ll be AMT’s first Data Scientist, a ground-floor role on our Technology team reporting to the Director of Technology. We’ll teach you how an engineering firm runs, from projects and proposals to finances and field work. You’ll bring the ML and AI skills to turn that knowledge into real tools. Your work will be visible to leadership and will help shape AMT’s AI strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI and ML solutions that unlock AMT business data and solve business processes, such as finding information in documents, analyzing projects, and forecasting, etc...
  • Extract and structure data from unstructured sources: proposals, specifications, contracts, and project records.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines that connect our business systems, including our ERP, helpdesk, CAD/GIS, and Microsoft 365.
  • Evaluate AI tools and vendors with our AI Steering Committee.
  • Apply security and data governance standards to everything you build, in support of our compliance programs.
  • Explain your findings clearly to engineers, project managers, and executives

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong Python and SQL skills.
  • A foundation in machine learning and statistics.
  • Hands-on project work with LLMs, data pipelines, or analytics (class, research, internship, or personal projects all count).
  • The ability to explain technical work in plain language.

Preferred:

  • Experience with LLM frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, or agentic workflows.
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms, Docker, or APIs.
  • Experience with Power BI or other visualization tools.
  • An interest in engineering, infrastructure, or GIS data.
