Data Scientist

Type: Contract, per-project.
Location: Remote - within LATAM time zones (GMT-3 to GMT-5) - Remote with meetings across U.S. time zones
Availability: Contractor (40 hours per week)

About the Role

We are looking for a Data Scientist to develop methodologies using rich, multi-dimensional data sets describing mobile and fixed internet performance. This role focuses on creating new measurements, KPIs, and models that help consumers, service providers, manufacturers, regulators, and other stakeholders better understand internet service quality.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in networking technologies, inferential statistics, and data programming, along with an inquisitive mindset, creative problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a passion for data advocacy.

What You'll Do

• Develop new measurements, KPIs, and models for describing internet quality of service and quality of experience.

• Develop approaches for statistical testing of measurements and KPIs.

• Work closely with data engineers and product managers to turn methodologies into viable data products.

• Ensure the quality and consistency of methodologies across products and public-facing outputs.

• Create internal tools, packages, documentation, and processes that enable reproducible reporting and self-service.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Data Analysis, or Data Science, or equivalent experience.

• Strong foundation in statistical inference, hypothesis testing, data analysis, and statistical modeling techniques.

• Experience applying statistical methods to real-world challenges.

• Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R.

• Strong SQL skills, including experience building complex queries against large datasets.

• Strong understanding of data pipelines and ETL processes.

• Experience with cloud computing platforms, with a strong focus on AWS.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Proven history of project ownership and cross-team collaboration.

• Strong understanding of internet, cellular, and broadband technology and infrastructure.

• Dependable team player who enjoys learning from and teaching others.
