Plan and execute the complete analytics life cycle of client, prospect and distribution engagements focused on Big Data and Advanced Business Analytics, particularly with advanced statistical modeling techniques such as next-best-offer, marketing attribution, retention and sales forecasting and agent compensation. Work with marketing and distribution leadership to develop data strategies regarding what data should be captured, how to capture, decision triggers, financial gain, etc., communicating and educating others through reports and presentations and aiding in implementation of modeling results. Principal Accountabilities Accountabilities should reflect job functions requiring at least 5% of an incumbent’s time commitment. Analysis/Model Development/Presenting – Plan and execute the complete analytics life cycle for analytics and modeling projects. Oversee and participate in the collection, management, and analysis of internal data to support database, data analysis and modeling initiatives. Develop analyses and predictive models and forecasts utilizing multivariate analysis of independent variables, variable reduction of datasets with hundreds of variables, and interaction detection. The Data Scientist will also be responsible for presenting findings to technical and nontechnical colleagues at all levels and assist in implementing model/analysis results in ongoing business processes. 2. Build, implement and maintain likelihood predictive models for marketing campaigns and sales efforts, including optimization for next-best-offer. 3. Build, implement and maintain attribution model for multiple marketing channels and customer/prospect contacts. 4. Build, implement and maintain forecasting models for customer retention, cross-sell, sales and distribution focused efforts. 5. Perform high-level modeling and analysis related to agent compensation, working closely with the VPs of marketing and sales. 6. Work closely with management to prioritize business and informational needs providing key insights. 7. Leverage big data mining and analysis to provide business, customer and distribution insight to maximize return on investments, revenue and profitability. 8. Mentor less experienced Data Analytics Analysts and Associate Data Scientists. 9. Project Management – Work with management to monitor the progress of on-going complex analyses being conducted either internally or by external resources, and coordinate study logistics. Ensure full and clear documentation of all processes and meet established deadlines. 10. Process Improvement – Locate, define, and implement new process improvement opportunities. 11. Training/Development – Broaden experience and understanding with procedures and types of modeling and analyses needed by Department. Increase independence in modeling and analysis design and execution. Non-Essential Functions: Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned. Qualifications/Know-How 1. College degree (Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, or Business) or equivalent plus four years relevant experience required. Master’s Degree preferred. 2. Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills. 3. Experience in designing and utilizing statistical modeling techniques. 4. Experience in data mining using analytical tools such as SQL, SAS, R, Python or equivalent. 5. Personal computer proficiency including working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools. 6. Hands-on experience developing and delivering structured, methodology projects. 7. Ability to travel overnight on company business. 8. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. 9. Oral and written communication skills as appropriate for this position. Nature Scope The Marketing and Agency Analytics Department is responsible for providing leaders across the organization the information necessary to make data-driven decisions related to marketing, agency services, sales and distribution. Analytics including but not limited to: both the targeting and measurement of marketing efforts, field commission modeling and analyses, contest modeling, agent productivity analytics, agency growth analytics and pipeline tracking, and segmentation of client/members, prospects and agents. This mission is accomplished by mining data across multiple company databases, and modeling, analyzing, reporting and presenting key findings and implications with recommendations for management action. The Data Scientist is responsible for supporting the analysis needs of marketing and distribution as well as a diverse group of internal customers. The major challenge of this position is to define issues and opportunities from specific questioning of the internal customers and designing and conducting appropriate consumer, marketing and/or distribution research projects to address these information needs. In addition to the likelihood predictive modeling responsibilities of the Associate Data Scientist, the Data Scientist is also expected to execute higher level modeling, building, implementing and maintaining complex next-best-offer models, attribution models and forecasting models. The Data Scientist is expected to execute a wider range of marketing and distribution projects with very little supervision. The Data Scientist is expected to manage a heavy workload, meeting established deadlines for projects as well as other commitments. Internal contacts include department VPs, directors and managers. External contacts include suppliers and consultants (and other information resources) to facilitate the completion of studies and analyses. Dimensions Non-quantifiable.
