Data Scientist - Energy Modeling

Remote within India · Full-time · Individual Contributor · 4+ Years' Experience

We build quantitative models and products across the energy sector, with a particular focus on forecasting and optimization. A large part of the work involves taking messy, real-world data and turning it into results that are correct, defensible, and reproducible. Because investment and operational decisions are made based on these models, a high standard of accuracy, rigor, and verifiability is essential.

We are looking for an experienced and rigorous data scientist with a generalist's range: someone who is strong in Python, comfortable with software development best practices, and skilled at turning unreliable data into something trustworthy. You should be proficient in exploratory analysis, data cleaning, anomaly detection and handling, sanity checks, and visualization, with depth in experience in modelling and/or optimization.

You should be skeptical of data quality by default and disciplined about verifying your own work. An energy background is not required. The domain is learnable, and we will support you in acquiring it.

The role also involves building solutions for enterprise customers and communicating your work clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What You'll Do

Explore, clean, and validate data

Identify, acquire, and validate trustworthy datasets

Formulate and solve optimization problems

Conduct defensible statistical and econometric analyses

Deliver reproducible analyses and models

Build reusable products, tools, and frameworks

Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to customers

What We're Looking For (Must-Haves)

4+ years of hands-on industry experience in data science: experience working with diverse, messy real-world datasets, including data pipelines, data cleaning, and predictive modelling and/or optimization.

Strong data-science fundamentals: expertise in exploratory analysis, data cleaning, anomaly detection, sanity checking, visualization, and validation.

Strong Python and software engineering skills (pandas, numpy, etc.): ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code using sound software engineering practices, including testing, version control, and code review.

Nice to Have

Background in energy, power systems, renewables, or electricity markets.

Experience with optimization, particularly LP/MILP and mathematical solvers (any toolchain).

Research publications in reputed venues.

How We Work

Alongside AI coding agents (Claude Code and similar), exercising significant judgment, decomposition, rigor, and verification.

In a fast-moving startup environment, balancing speed with high standards of quality and correctness while building products from 0 to 1 in close collaboration with the team.

Your Impact

Build tools that help the world navigate the energy transition intelligently.
