Role purpose

Vodafone Egypt consumer marketing team seeks a lead data scientist to boost business’s decisions towards data-driven decision making.

As part of our data science team, you will work alongside data scientists, big data engineers, and business stakeholders to define data science use cases, advise and solve complex problems, and be positioned as the local technical expert. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining use case pipelines, and communicating results to scientists, product managers, and customers.

Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form of products, services, and offers. You will gain hands-on experience with Vodafone’s huge volume of data and large-scale computing resources.

Job profile

  • Mentor a team of data scientists.
  • Identify business opportunities to make a commercial difference.
  • Lead the development of analytics initiatives to meet business requirements.
  • Translate complex datasets into strategic insights for the business and communicate simply to non-technical audiences, visualizing results to create understanding and solution buy-in.
  • Be recognized as an expert in the community, mentoring and advising colleagues on statistical techniques, algorithms, and data sources.
  • Work closely with technology teams to design, build, test, deploy, maintain, and improve technology solutions and models.
  • Identify new analytics trends and opportunities to drive the innovation agenda across business functions and advanced analytics.
  • Promote design thinking and agile methodologies.

Competencies and qualifications

  • Be passionate about working with huge data sets and love bringing datasets together to answer business questions. Have deep expertise in creation and management of datasets.
  • Be detail-oriented with an aptitude for solving unstructured problems. Work in a self-directed environment, own tasks, and drive them to completion.
  • Ability to test hypotheses from raw data sets, draw meaningful conclusions, and effectively communicate results verbally, in writing, and through effective visualization.
  • Strong knowledge of big data technology (e.g., Hadoop MR, interactive SQL on Hadoop, NoSQL, Spark, Tableau, GIS).

Core competencies, knowledge and experience

  • Passion for working with large data sets and bringing datasets together to answer business questions with deep expertise in dataset creation and management.
  • Detail-oriented with aptitude for solving unstructured problems, working independently, owning tasks, and driving them to completion.
  • Ability to test hypotheses from raw data sets, draw meaningful conclusions, and communicate results effectively verbally, in writing, and through visualization.
  • Strong knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop MR, interactive SQL on Hadoop, NoSQL, Spark, Tableau, and GIS.
  • Deep and broad statistical modelling expertise in various domains.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to translate business issues into potential analytics solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Excellent command of English.

Must have technical / professional qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in quantitative fields like mathematics, statistics, computer science, or engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a focus on advanced analytics and predictive modelling.
  • Competent in machine learning principles, deep learning, and generative AI techniques.
  • Proficient in statistical packages and machine learning libraries (e.g., Python SciPy and TensorFlow, Spark MLlib).
  • Familiar with leading visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI).
  • Familiar with implementing data transformations and algorithms in common programming languages.
  • Strong communication skills with prior experience communicating analytics results to senior management.
