Data Scientist - Treasury
Summary
Internal Group Treasury hire in Luxembourg to rebuild the treasury landscape: complete the REVAL treasury system implementation, automate bank statement flows and Power BI reporting, simplify payment approval processes, and build a control/audit framework. Profile is closer to an internal/IT auditor than a treasury specialist.
Purpose of the role
Group Treasury is implementing a three-year strategic plan (2026 to 2029) covering treasury systems and data, process simplification, controls and bank administration. The Treasury Business Process Integrator is the first hire dedicated to this plan and will be its main operational resource.
The starting point is a fragmented environment: a treasury management system that was implemented but never completed, other systems still paid for every year to fill the gaps, bank statements loaded and reconciled manually, reporting rebuilt by hand every cycle, and a payment approval chain so long that it holds back day-to-day cash optimisation.
The role holder's mission is to take this landscape apart and rebuild it: complete the application landscape, automate data flows, simplify processes and anchor them in a credible control framework and audit trail. The profile sought is closer to an internal auditor or IT auditor than to a treasury specialist. What matters most is the ability, and the willingness, to break a process down, ask why it works the way it does, and design a simpler solution that operational teams will actually use.
Key responsibilities
Systems and data
Complete the implementation of REVAL so that it becomes the group's central treasury system and bank connector, and decommission the parallel systems currently maintained to compensate for what was never deployed
Automate the bank statement flow end to end, eliminating the daily extraction, loading and reconciliation currently done by hand
Centralise intercompany loans, payments, cash management and FX in a single system, and feed the ERP and the group aggregation layer automatically
Roll out Power BI for Treasury and the wider Finance function, integrating it with the existing reporting environment so that recurring reports refresh automatically instead of being rebuilt
Build the data aggregation foundation that will enable the introduction of AI and agent-based automation in 2028 and 2029
Process review and simplification
Review treasury and related finance processes end to end, document how they currently work, and assess what genuinely adds value and what does not
Shorten the payment approval chain to a realistic four-eyes model, so that day-to-day cash optimisation is no longer held back by the process itself
Quantify the time freed up by each change, demonstrate the gains achieved, and bring operational teams on board rather than imposing the outcome on them
Control and audit trail
Perform monthly random sample testing on payments, bank KYC/AML files and FX transactions, verifying that orders were released with the required approvals, and follow up on exceptions
Build and maintain a clear, demonstrable audit trail across all treasury activities, so that the function can withstand a due diligence review covering several years
Contribute to updating the treasury policy and to documenting procedures and segregation of duties
Act as the point of contact for internal and external auditors on treasury matters, including insurance
Bank administration
Handle bank administration for group entities: setting up new users, managing mandates and signing authorities, KYC/AML files and their periodic updates
Maintain complete bank account documentation, act as the administrative contact for banking partners, and contribute to rationalising banking products and account structures
Knowledge, experience and skills
Essential
Internal audit or IT audit experience gained within a sizeable group, with a proven ability to break down a process, assess its relevance and rebuild it more simply
Strong command of Power BI, with the ability to design reports and dashboards, and not only to consult them
The reflex to ask why things are done a certain way, and the confidence to keep asking. This is the single most important quality for the role
An auditor with business acumen rather than a compliance gatekeeper: someone who brings control expertise to operational teams without becoming a bottleneck
Hands-on, autonomous and comfortable in an environment where systems and processes are still being mapped
Fluent English, written and spoken
Desirable
Knowledge of treasury processes: cash management, payments, FX, intercompany loans and bank connectivity. Curiosity matters more here than deep treasury expertise
Experience implementing or integrating finance systems in a multi-entity international group (TMS, ERP, consolidation and reporting tools)
Knowledge of banks' KYC/AML documentation requirements
French and/or German
Education and profile
Degree in finance, accounting, information systems, business administration or a related discipline; excellent Excel skills
Candidates trained at a Big 4 firm are welcome, provided their mindset is entrepreneurial rather than procedural
Structured and analytical mind, with the interpersonal skills needed to work with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
