Data Scientist (WFH Opportunity)

About the Role

Skool is hiring its first Data Scientist to join the Data team and report to the Head of Data. This is a hands-on role focused on using data science to improve a consumer product and help users discover the right communities and people.

You’ll work across feed, search, recommendations, ranking, personalization, engagement, activation, retention, and advertising. You’ll partner closely with Product, Growth, and Engineering to investigate ambiguous problems, identify opportunities, test ideas, and turn analysis into measurable product and business outcomes.

This is a 100% remote position. Skool has an office in Los Angeles, but operates as a distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

• Build models and algorithms for feed, recommendations, ranking, and search to improve discovery of relevant communities and people

• Own data science initiatives across product, growth, and user engagement, from analysis through measured results

• Use real-time data to identify opportunities, test ideas quickly, and refine models based on outcomes

• Develop predictive models for activation, retention, and other key user funnels

• Design and run experiments, analyze results, and translate findings into clear product and business decisions

• Partner with Growth to test and improve advertising and measure its impact on acquisition and engagement

• Write production-quality code or work closely with Engineering to implement real-time solutions when offline analysis is not sufficient

• Take ownership of ambiguous problems, determine priorities, and move work forward independently

Required Qualifications

• Deep data science experience with a track record of using analysis, experiments, and models to grow a consumer product

• Hands-on experience building recommendation, matchmaking, ranking, search, or personalization systems

• Strong foundation in machine learning and statistical modeling

• Hands-on experience with tools such as Python and scikit-learn

• Strong data analysis skills and a tool-agnostic approach focused on accurate results and business impact

• Ability to move quickly, experiment, make informed decisions, and learn from outcomes

• Ability to manage real budgets, take calculated bets, learn from mistakes, and adjust based on results

• Ability to own ambiguous problems, identify what matters, and work independently

• Ability to write production-quality code for real-time solutions or partner closely with Engineering on implementation

• Hands-on experience optimizing advertising, acquisition, or other performance marketing systems
