Data Specialist - DevOps Engineer
Summary
Morrisons is hiring a DevOps-focused data engineer in Bradford to advance its data strategy: provisioning and securing GCP infrastructure with Terraform, building automated ETL/ELT pipelines into BigQuery, managing CI/CD with Jenkins, and optimizing cost, monitoring, and performance to power Looker dashboards and BI/AI tooling.
In this role you will advance Morrisons' data strategy by managing a GCP-based data environment and maturing DataOps practices. You split time between infrastructure automation and building data pipelines that feed BI and AI tooling. You’ll implement scalable, secure, and cost-aware pipelines and infrastructure using Terraform and BigQuery, impacting data availability and performance for Looker dashboards. You’ll collaborate with the Data Ops leader and a delivery partner to drive adoption and reliable data delivery.

- Provision GCP infrastructure with Terraform (BigQuery datasets, Cloud Storage, IAM, compute resources)
- Implement fine-grained access controls and data security measures in BigQuery via IaC
- Optimize resource use and costs in GCP (compute slots, storage)
- Develop automated ETL/ELT pipelines to load diverse data sources into BigQuery
- Design and manage CI/CD workflows with Jenkins for data pipelines and infra updates
- Collaborate with Data Analysts to optimize BigQuery schemas and performance for Looker dashboards
- Set up Cloud Monitoring and Logging to monitor Jenkins jobs and pipeline health
- 3–5 years in a combined DevOps and Data Engineering role
- Proven GCP production environment experience
- Terraform proficiency for GCP infrastructure management
- Jenkins experience for CI/CD and automation
- SQL (BigQuery dialect) and Python proficiency
- Some Looker (LookML) familiarity or supporting Looker data models is desirable
