Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our Software Development team. In this role, you will design, develop, optimise, and support database solutions that ensure reliable, secure, and accessible business data. You will play a key part in operational support, database development, performance optimisation, reporting, automation, compliance, and continuous technical improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain database objects (tables, views, stored procedures) to meet business needs and performance expectations.
Provide operational support for tickets, reports, dashboards, and other database‑related requirements.
Maintain high database availability by monitoring uptime, minimising downtime, and resolving issues promptly.
Ensure data integrity and consistency through validation, cleansing, and adherence to data quality standards.
Optimise database performance by tuning parameters, improving queries, indexing, and reducing fragmentation.
Support database planning and contribute to efficient future workflows.
Provide technical support and guidance to developers on database issues, queries, and data fixes.
Review developer pull requests, schemas, and queries for accuracy, optimisation, and compliance with best practices.
Implement and maintain data security measures to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and compliance with privacy regulations.
Collaborate with developers and stakeholders through clear communication, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Automate repetitive or critical database tasks to improve productivity.
Continuously improve technical skills through courses, conferences, or self‑learning.
Build tools to proactively monitor and report on database health, escalating issues as needed.
Contribute to projects that advance the maturity of our database environment (e.g., Encryption at Rest, Data Lakes, POPI compliance).
Provide standby support outside of normal working hours.
Skills & ExperienceDiploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Development, or related field.
3–5 years’ practical experience in SQL database development, support, or a similar role.
Strong SQL development skills (tables, views, stored procedures, queries, data fixes).
Experience with reporting, dashboards, and operational database outputs.
Knowledge of query tuning, indexing, optimisation, and performance monitoring.
Understanding of data integrity, validation, cleansing, and quality standards.
Ability to review schemas, pull requests, and queries against best practices.
Awareness of data security, confidentiality, and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to prioritise work, meet performance benchmarks, and pursue continuous improvement. #J-18808-Ljbffr
