Database Administrator

Summary

Leads database infrastructure projects, including upgrades, security, automation, and cloud migrations, while providing technical consultancy on database design, performance, and operational readiness.

Czym będziesz się zajmować?

YOU WILL

  • Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives, including platform upgrades, evergreening, standardisation, estate hygiene, and decommissioning.
  • Build, maintain, and manage database environments, supporting the transition towards reduced physical server deployments and improved cost efficiency.
  • Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates in line with internal security, risk, and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate new database technologies and features, build proofs-of-concept, and support their safe adoption across the environment.
  • Work with cloud database services where applicable and support the evolution of the database estate.
  • Provide technical consultancy to project teams on database design, resilience, performance, backup and recovery, and operational readiness.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including standards, procedures, implementation guides, and runbooks.
  • Provide management with clear updates on delivery progress, risks, dependencies, issues, and remediation plans.
  • Support change and incident management activities, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Participate in an on-call / support rota when required.


Kogo poszukujemy?

MUST HAVE
  • Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise relational database management system (RDBMS), such as:
    • Oracle – including technologies such as RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, or Exadata
    • DB2
    • PostgreSQL
    • SQL Server
  • Experience in database administration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with shell scripting and automation using technologies such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
  • Strong understanding of IT operations, including incident management, change management, and controlled production environments
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt new database technologies
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to different audiences
  • Strong organisational skills and a methodical, detail-oriented approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Willingness to participate in out-of-hours support when required
NICE TO HAVE
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, or Exadata
  • Experience with cloud-based database services
  • Experience delivering database or infrastructure modernisation and migration initiatives
  • Experience creating proofs-of-concept and evaluating new database technologies
