Database Administrator – SQL Database

Summary

Design, build, and operate Hilti’s SQL database platform using Azure SQL Managed Instance and Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring secure, scalable, and automated solutions for global business-critical apps.

As an IT Infrastructure Engineer for SQL Databases in Standard Application Platform team, you will design, build, and operate Hilti’s database platform services with a strong focus on Azure SQL Managed Instance and Microsoft SQL Server. You will work in a global, agile team to deliver secure, scalable, and highly automated database solutions that support business-critical applications worldwide.

Database Administrator – SQL Database

What You'll do

You will take end-to-end ownership of engineering and operating Hilti’s SQL platform services providing the database services for Standard Application Platform across a hybrid landscape of Azure and on-premises environments. Your work will span engineering, operations, and continuous improvement, ensuring a modern and reliable database landscape. Your responsibilities will include:

Engineering
  • Design and implement Azure SQL Managed Instance solutions, ensuring security, and high availability
  • Drive standardization and platform engineering practices for SQL services
Operations & Reliability
  • Ensure availability, performance, and security of Azure SQL Managed Instance and Microsoft SQL Server environments
  • Manage lifecycle activities (patching, upgrades, migrations, backup/restore, decommissioning)
  • Troubleshoot incidents and perform root cause analysis for database-related issues
Transformation & Cloud Adoption
  • Support migration of workloads from on-prem Microsoft SQL Server to Azure SQL Managed Instance
  • Contribute to the evolution of Hilti’s database platform towards a cloud-native, managed service model
  • Act as a technical consultant for application teams on database architecture and best practices
Collaboration & Governance
  • Work closely with application teams, architects, and security to define standards and solutions
  • Ensure compliance with security, audit, and operational standards
  • Act as a guardian of platform standards and challenge non-scalable solutions

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in database engineering with experience working in enterprise-scale IT environments
  • Strong experience with SQL Server engineering and operations including database high availability, backup/restore, performance tuning
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance (preferred) or Azure PaaS database services
  • Knowledge of Azure platform services (monitoring, networking, security, identity)
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, KQL or similar)
  • Ability to work in a global, cross-functional setup with structured and confident communication skills
  • Strong ownership mindset and drive for continuous improvement with strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
