Database Administrator
Summary
Maintains and optimizes enterprise database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora) on AWS, ensuring high availability, security, and performance for production environments.
Role and Responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of production, UAT, and development databases.
- Monitor database health and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Perform database capacity planning, storage management, and performance optimization.
- Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Execute database upgrades, migrations, and patch management with minimal downtime.
- Troubleshoot database incidents and provide timely resolution to production issues.
- Implement database security best practices, including user access management, encryption, auditing, and compliance.
- Manage database replication, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
- Develop and maintain database maintenance plans and automation scripts.
- Collaborate with software development teams to optimize database design and SQL queries.
- Review database changes and provide recommendations to improve scalability and performance.
- Create and maintain database documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
- Participate in on-call support and incident response activities when required.
- Mentor junior database administrators and provide technical guidance.
- Support Agile delivery teams and participate in planning, estimation, and release activities.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator supporting enterprise applications.
- Strong experience administering relational database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
- Experience managing production database environments with high availability requirements.
- Hands-on experience administering AWS managed database services.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, indexing, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Experience implementing backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
- Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
