Database Developer
Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Relational Database Engineering (SQL & Cloud)
- Design, build, and optimize complex database components including stored procedures, packages, functions, views, materialized views, triggers, and sequences using PostgreSQL and Oracle PL/SQL.
- Provision and maintain relational workloads on Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL/Oracle), Amazon Aurora, and hybrid/self-managed setups (e.g., Oracle Database@AWS).
- Evaluate distributed SQL engines and implement automated database CI/CD migration scripts using Git and deployment tools.
2. NoSQL & Polyglot Persistence
- Architect scalable NoSQL solutions on Amazon DynamoDB using advanced single-table design, partition/sort key strategies, DynamoDB Streams, and Global Tables.
- Develop document store workloads using Amazon DocumentDB (aggregation pipelines, sharding, indexing) and wide-column stores (Cassandra) or search engines (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch).
- Advise development teams on polyglot persistence patternsbalancing CAP theorem trade-offs, consistency models, and multi-model data sync.
3. Data Integration, Modern Lakehouse & AI Enablement
- Build and manage database migration and replication pipelines using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and CDC streaming tools (Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, AWS Glue).
- Structure, curate, and index data to support Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, leveraging vector stores and Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases.
- Facilitate analytics workflows leveraging Amazon Redshift, zero-ETL pipelines, and open table formats like Apache Iceberg with Amazon Athena.
4. Performance Tuning & Production Operations
- Lead database troubleshooting, query execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN ANALYZE), index defragmentation, and database connection pooling.
- Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) on production incidents and implement lasting code fixes under defined SLAs.
- Configure observability dashboards and alerts using Amazon CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Enforce security best practices: database IAM role authentication, AWS Secrets Manager integration, and least-privilege RBAC.
Desired Candidate Profile
Must-Have Requirements:
- Education: B.Tech / B.E. / MCA in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent technical discipline.
- Core Experience: Minimum 6+ years in database development with deep SQL fluency on PostgreSQL or Oracle.
- Cloud Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience building on AWS Managed Databases (Amazon RDS, Aurora).
- NoSQL Hands-on: 2+ years building access-pattern-driven models on DynamoDB, DocumentDB, or Cassandra.
- Performance Tuning: Proven track record diagnosing locks, deadlocks, slow queries, and missing indexes in mission-critical environments.
- Replication & Migrations: Real-world execution of cross-database or cloud migrations using tools like AWS DMS.
- Strong grasp of version control (Git), schema migration tooling (Flyway/Liquibase), and Agile ceremonies.
Nice-to-Have / Preferred:
- Active AWS Certifications (AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate).
- Familiarity with next-gen database versions (PostgreSQL 17, Oracle Database 23ai) or Aurora DSQL / Aurora Serverless v2.
- Hands-on exposure to containerized database setups running on Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), or ECS.
- Working knowledge of cloud data warehouses like Snowflake or Databricks.
