Database Engineer - Bold Cape

The Database Engineer will support the ESCAPE program and broader enterprise data initiatives by designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance database systems. This role ensures data integrity, supports analytics and reporting, and aligns with DoD and ESCAPE-specific requirements for operational data store (ODS), legacy system migration, and cloud-based architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain relational SQL databases (e.g., SQL Server)
• Implement and manage data pipelines and integration workflows using tools like Azure Data Factory and Data Bricks
• Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and storage management.
• Support data migration from legacy USAF systems into a cloud-based ODS
• Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices in compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance policies
• Collaborate with software engineers, data analysts, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless data access and integration.
• Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Powershell).
• Document database processes and provide training to technical staff as needed.
• Provide operational support, reviews, and health checks.
