emagine is looking for a highly skilled Database Engineer/Developer to join a cross-functional team working on a modern, high-scale data platform to one of our nordic banking clients.

Location: Stockholm (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)


Description

This role combines development, performance tuning, and database reliability engineering, with a strong focus on query optimization, observability, and scalable database design.
You will work hands-on with complex SQL workloads and play a key role in improving performance, stability, and maintainability of mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities
Development (Dev)

  • Design and optimize stored procedures and functions, complex SQL queries

  • Develop and maintain Dynamic SQL solutions

  • Work with data partitioning strategies for large datasets


Database Engineering / DBA

  • Perform index tuning and query optimization

  • Optimize data types and schema design

  • Analyze and resolve performance issues using tools such as sp_Blitz

  • Handle partition maintenance and data lifecycle strategies

  • Maintain and improve statistics and execution plans

  • But no need to manage backups/high availability/logins/users/most of the disk related tasks


Observability & Monitoring

  • Analyze usage patterns and problematic queries

  • Utilize Query Store for performance insights

  • Build and interpret Splunk dashboards / monitoring tools

  • Work with tools like Redgate Monitor (or similar)

  • Contribute to improving data observability practices


Engineering & Automation

  • Support CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions)

  • Implement deployment automation and guard checks

  • Improve artifact sharing and versioning practices


Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server

Proven hands-on experience in:

  • Query performance tuning

  • Index optimization

  • Troubleshooting production issues

Deep understanding of:

  • Execution plans

  • SQL Server internals

  • Transaction isolation levels

  • Experience with large-scale databases and partitioning

  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools

  • Experience DevOps and CI/CD for databases
