AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.
As the Data Center Engineering Operation (DCEO) Chief Engineer (CE), you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventive maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. You will serve as an expert technical resource reporting to a site’s Data Center Facility Manager and interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third‑party vendors.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
- Operate independently with limited direct management
- Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities
- Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center region and work overnight hours as needed to support site stability
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
- Troubleshoot and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLA
- Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts for the same
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff
- Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflowsMV/LV isolation to facilitate maintenance activities
- Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis

Basic Qualifications
- Good verbal and written English communication skills
- Engineering degree in Electrical or Mechanical, or apprentice/trades certified or diploma in an Electrical/HVAC field with extensive experience
- Demonstrate key electrical competencies (practice & theory)
- Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
- Ability to draft accurate support procedures in English, system documentation, and issue tracking entries
- Ability to take full ownership of technical issues
- Willing to travel between data center sites, and internationally if required
- Solid IT skills; experience and knowledge of MS Office suite
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in operations and on‑call support for data center facilities or mission‑critical plants/production facilities with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical support infrastructure
- An undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, industrial engineering)
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including life safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
- Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
- Solid leadership, mentoring and organizational skills
