A Registered Nurse (RN) oversees health care for individuals with disabilities in residential and day programs, managing medication, medical training, and emergency response while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and state regulations.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The RN is to support the overall mission of the DDS Residential Department and implement its philosophy and goals so that all levels of the organization, its activities, programs, and plans recognize and utilize strategies to promote personal well-being for each member served. Responsible for the monitoring, assessment and planning of each individual’s health needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the agency’s policies and procedures that impact their jobs. Training on the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the agency’s health information policies and procedures under the direction of the agency privacy officer is a pre-requisite for this position.2. Ensure each individual may achieve optimal quality of life (QOL) outcomes for people we support through a person-centered approach utilizing universal strategies, which is the foundation of the quality care and service provided. 3. Facilitate quality services through adherence to agency, DDS, DPH, ABI and MFP standards. Adhere to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission’s Mandated Reporter Guidelines.4. Provide or coordinate applicable staff training in medical/health related areas.5. Present and train staff and other program personnel including individuals as needed. Including becoming a MAP trainer and offer MAP training as needed.6. Attend team meetings as necessary, staff meetings and other meetings that may be required.7. Meet one time a week with each of the DDS House Managers and review all the appointments that occurred during the past week to ensure that all medication changes were appropriately made and follow up has occurred/been scheduled. Responsible for the maintenance and acquisition of AED’s for the DDS residential homes and the 771 Church Street building and Robert’s Drive building.
8. When individuals have been admitted to the hospital, the RN will have daily contact with the hospital and will visit in-person as directed by the DDS Residential Services Director or designee. The RN will review all discharge plans before the individual comes home to ensure everything is in place such as medications, and or assistive devices.9. Assist in completing required documentation including monthly reports.10. Provide specialized training groups for members of each program such as diabetes, low cholesterol, general safety, etc.11. Adhere to agency/personnel policies, DDS, ABI, MFP and DPH regulations; follow emergency and call-in procedures.12. Participate in conferences, workshops, and related trainings to stay abreast of developments in the field.13. Perform other duties as assigned by the DDS Residential Director and/or Administration.14. Act as an appropriate role model through dress, speech, and actions while in the program and in the community to foster positive social/relationships and skill development.15. Identify emerging crisis situations and provide assistance as needed with other staff and/or management team members. Effectively perform crisis intervention which may include providing emergency first aid/CPR; performing fire evacuation, disaster relocation or emergency search; handling other crisis management procedures in accordance with program procedures.16. Communicate with family members, guardians, Residential, Day Services, Employment all other pertinent personnel in a timely and professional manner.17. Follow agency and personnel policies and procedures.
18. Assist (or cover) with med passes at DDS houses when necessary.19. Cover vacations and other time off as needed in order to ensure there’s nurse oversight in necessary programs such as Day Services and ABI, residential20. Arrange all staff PTO time off requests with Director. Vacation time must be requested at least two weeks prior to the desired date(s). In the case of illness, you must call out to your supervisor two hours prior to the start of your shift.21. Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as assigned; work shifts as assigned. Shifts may not be changed unless permission is received from supervisor prior to change.22. Required to maintain certifications in all agency mandated trainings.23. Maintain current RN licensure and provide HR with updated copies to be kept on file.24. Accurately documents all hours worked on the Agency electronic time management system. All timesheets must be submitted timely for approval which act as your electronic signature and approval. Time sheets should reflect employee’s assigned scheduled unless prior approval was given by supervisor to alter assigned schedule.25. Responsible for maintaining current certification(s) including but not limited to START, CPR/FA, and MAP (if applicable to position).26. Responsible for completing all training assigned in electronic Learning Management System on time or attending any scheduled training. If unable to complete or attend it is the employee’s responsibility to obtain prior authorization/permission to re-schedule training from Supervisor and notify Human Resources.27. Responsible for routinely checking electronic communications; including but not limited to time off management, BFAIR email, BFAIR portal, and electronic LMS system. These systems should be checked each shift your work.28. Meet with Senior Director or designee monthly for individual supervision; attend staff meetings, and other meetings as assigned. 29. Adhere to agency/personnel policies, DDS regulations, follow emergency procedures and maintain individual’s confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.30. The agency reserves the right to revise existing schedules and/or program sites assignments, with notice due to the changing needs of the individuals served and program(s).31. Perform other duties as assigned by Director and/or designee.
