Deli Manager - Full Time (Term)
NewBe an early applicantOperating in a diverse and highly competitive retail environment, the Deli Manager is responsible for the leadership to the Deli department with Homestead Co-op. Reporting to the Food Store Manager, this position is a member of the Leadership Team, and is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Deli Team Members to ensure operational efficiencies and processes are followed to align with the strategy, objectives and vision of the respective department. This role will work with the Food Store Manager to determine current and future capabilities required for effective execution of merchandising, marketing, image/fixed assets, talent development in addition to driving sales.

What you’ll do:
Departmental Leadership:
This position leads the direction of Deli Team Members in the areas of:
Talent Acquisition – Full-cycle talent acquisition in cooperation with Human Resources.
Performance Management – Provision of feedback, performance reviews and difficult conversations.
Team Member Training and Development – Identifying and enabling opportunities for staff learning and development.
Team Member Relations – Fostering a safe, approachable and respectful environment for staff to bring forward concerns and can expect to have those addressed in a fair and consistent manner.
Health and Safety – Encouraging a culture of safety in the workplace.
Operations:
The Deli Manager is responsible for the overall safe, effective operations of the Deli Department. This identifies areas for improvement and follow up on execution:
Member Relations – Ensuring team members adhere to the guidelines of the CARE program.
Marketing – Supports and implements marketing campaigns to enhance business growth and maximize available margins.
Merchandising – Completion of image checklists and implementation of action plans.
Administrative Duties - Claims, invoices and all other paperwork is done timely, accurately and meets agreed upon timelines.
Fixed Assets – Ensuring maintenance schedules for all equipment and rolling stock are in place.
Budgeting and Finance:
This position is responsible for all aspects of the department and financial results including budgets, sales, margins, expenses, inventory and SPEH. Ensure facilities adhere to or exceed brand standards and expectations. Identify deficiencies and provide recommendations/action plans as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Who you are:
Education:
- Grade 12 Graduation is required
- Diploma or Degree in Business, Retail, Culinary/Hospitality Management is an asset
- Food Handler Certification is an asset
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Other Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience developing and/or complying with financial planning utilizing the analysis of budgets, sales, margins, expenses and inventory in a retail and/or commercial food service environment
- 3+ years experience supervising others in a retail/food service environment is required
- 3+ years experience in preparation and cooking of food in a commercial deli, kitchen or retail environment
- Experience using commercial kitchen equipment such as meat slicer, deep fryer, commercial ovens, knives and utensils
- Experience following and teaching others to follow instructions, recipes, and procedures in a commercial deli or kitchen.
- Experience using point of sale systems
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in environments with exposure to heat, cold, steam, dust, and commercial food equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Effective communication skills that foster a respectful workplace
- Effective interpersonal skills to foster professional relationships and manage conflict.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Conditions of Employment:
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Criminal Record check satisfactory to the employer
- Class 5 Driver’s license valid in the Province of Manitoba
- Driver’s abstract satisfactory to the employer
- Ability to lift/pull/push/carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to work flexible shifts which include days, evenings, and weekends
