Position Summary
Schmitt Music offers a structured career path within its Delivery Team through three progressive driver tiers that provide opportunities for growth, skill development, and advancement.
Tier 1 Driver
Tier 1 Drivers support Schmitt Music's delivery operations through musical instrument store deliveries, product movement, and general delivery support activities. This entry-level role focuses on safely and efficiently moving products while learning company delivery standards, warehouse coordination processes, and customer service expectations.
Tier 1 Drivers are not independently responsible for moving pianos. This role serves as the foundation for advancement into higher-level delivery positions.
Tier 2 Driver
Tier 2 Drivers are developing delivery professionals who are training to perform piano moves and support more advanced delivery operations. Team members in this role assist with piano deliveries, store distribution routes, and specialized product transportation while building the technical skills, consistency, and confidence required for advancement to Tier 3.
Lead Driver (Tier 3)
The Lead Driver is the highest field-level position within Schmitt Music's Delivery Team. This role is responsible for independently completing piano deliveries, store distribution routes, and other complex delivery assignments while exemplifying safe handling practices, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.
In addition to full delivery responsibilities, the Lead Driver partners with the Delivery Manager to train and mentor Tier 2 Drivers, reinforce operational standards in the field, and serve as a lead presence on delivery crews.

Key Responsibilities
Tier 1 Driver
- Support musical instrument store deliveries and product movement between warehouses, stores, and other company locations.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting merchandise safely and accurately.
- Support delivery crews with product handling, route execution, and daily operational activities.
- Follow company standards for safety, customer service, and professionalism.
- Maintain delivery vehicles, tools, and moving equipment in a clean and operational condition.
- Assist with warehouse and delivery coordination to ensure efficient product movement.
- Communicate delivery issues, product concerns, and field-related questions to the Delivery Manager or designated leadership.
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork by supporting broader delivery and operational needs during peak business periods.
Tier 2 Driver
- Assist with piano deliveries, store distribution routes, and other assigned delivery work.
- Load, unload, move, position, and protect pianos and other instruments using approved equipment and handling methods.
- Learn and apply proper piano moving techniques, delivery procedures, and customer service standards.
- Work alongside the Delivery Manager and Lead Driver to develop the skills necessary for independent piano delivery.
- Support vehicle readiness, equipment maintenance, and delivery preparation activities.
- Complete delivery assignments accurately, safely, and professionally.
- Communicate delivery challenges, equipment concerns, and field observations to the Delivery Manager or Lead Driver.
- Maintain delivery vehicles, tools, and moving equipment in a clean and operational condition.
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork by supporting broader delivery and operational needs during peak business periods.
Lead Driver (Tier 3)
- Independently perform piano deliveries, store distribution routes, and other complex delivery assignments.
- Safely move, place, and protect pianos and other large instruments using approved techniques and equipment.
- Serve as a field leader by modeling exceptional customer service, professionalism, and safe delivery practices.
- Train, coach, and support Tier 2 Drivers as they develop delivery and piano-moving skills.
- Assist with onboarding and development of delivery team members as assigned.
- Ensure delivery assignments are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently.
- Support route execution, problem-solving, and communication in the field.
- Maintain delivery vehicles, tools, and moving equipment in a clean and operational condition.
- Complete required delivery documentation and communicate service concerns or operational issues to the Delivery Manager.
- Foster a positive team environment by supporting organizational and operational needs during peak business periods.
