Deputy General Counsel

Open 61d

LemFi (Series B) is building the go-to financial app for the Global South.

Moving to a new country shouldn’t mean starting from zero. That's why our team of 400+ spanning 20+ countries is building a financial ecosystem that helps immigrants stay connected to home, build stability, and create wealth regardless of where they are from or where they live.

What began as fast, affordable remittances is now evolving into a complete platform for multi-currency accounts, payments, credit, and long-term financial growth.

With millions of users across the globe, we process over $1B in monthly transactions to 30+ countries, proving that borders shouldn't limit financial opportunity.

About the role

You'll be the second in command for LemFi's Legal Department, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer. This is high-impact, versatile leadership. You'll balance strategic advisory with hands-on execution across financing, M&A, corporate transactions, product launches, and global compliance. You'll be a key partner to the CLO, stepping in to lead the department in her absence and handling a broad portfolio of high-stakes legal matters. You're not managing a function from a distance. You're in the work, making the calls, and scaling the legal infrastructure as we expand globally.

What you'll build and own

  • Take ownership of legal structuring, negotiation and execution of complex credit and debt financing arrangements. Partner with Finance to secure and manage the capital that fuels our credit products and long-term growth.

  • Lead legal support for strategic transactions: M&A, fundraising and other high-value corporate matters. Manage due diligence, deal structuring and external counsel coordination to execute at speed and scale.

  • Oversee the legal administration of our Employee Stock Option Plans. Manage grants, vestings and exercises in compliance with local regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

  • In partnership with People, advise on global employment structures, cross-border employee arrangements and incentive schemes. Provide pragmatic, scalable legal input for our growing team.

  • Serve as the legal architect for new and evolving products. Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ensure offerings are compliant, risk-managed, and supported by clear customer documentation.

  • Partner with the CLO on corporate governance, capital markets and strategic legal projects. Lead and mentor the legal team and guide the use of external counsel.

  • Keep LemFi ahead of the curve in a complex international regulatory environment (FCA, FINTRAC, AUSTRAC) as we expand across Europe and new global markets.

Your experience

  • 10+ years in a top-tier international law firm or in-house legal function, with a focus on banking, finance or corporate transactions.

  • Proven record advising on debt financings, credit facilities, security packages, plus experience with M&A or venture-backed equity.

  • Strong grasp of capital structures, investor documentation and multi-jurisdictional corporate governance.

  • Comfortable balancing legal risk with commercial reality. You know how to get to "yes" safely.

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. You communicate clearly to non-lawyers.

  • Confident advising leadership teams directly without large-firm infrastructure support.

  • Law degree from a reputable university and qualification to practise in the UK or Europe.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with fintech or payments regulation.

  • In-house experience at a high-growth financial services or tech company.

  • Cross-border expansion or multi-market regulatory experience.
