Deputy General Manager/General Manager - Operations - Defence & Non Auto

Role Overview:

The Operations Head for the Defence & Non-Auto Division will serve as the strategic anchor for our client's specialized manufacturing operations in Chennai. This role involves overseeing the end-to-end production lifecycle, from vendor development and supply chain integration to high-stakes sales and export operations. You will work closely with cross-functional leadership teams, government stakeholders, and international clients to drive production efficiency, ensure strict compliance with defence standards, and scale the division's market footprint. Your leadership will be pivotal in transforming operational workflows into a sustainable competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

- Direct the entire manufacturing lifecycle for the Defence & Non-Auto division to ensure seamless production delivery and adherence to stringent quality benchmarks.

- Spearhead vendor development initiatives to build a resilient and cost-effective supply chain capable of meeting complex technical specifications.

- Drive sales growth and market expansion by identifying new business opportunities and maintaining high-value relationships with institutional clients.

- Oversee export operations, ensuring all international trade compliance and logistics requirements are met to facilitate global market penetration.

- Mentor and lead large, multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of operational discipline, safety, and continuous improvement.

- Manage P&L responsibilities for the division, optimizing resource allocation and operational costs to maximize profitability and business outcomes.

Required Skillset:

- Demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale manufacturing operations with a deep understanding of mechanical engineering processes and production systems.

- Proven ability to lead complex sales cycles and manage high-stakes client relationships within the defence or heavy engineering sectors.

- Exceptional leadership capabilities, with a track record of managing and scaling diverse teams in a high-pressure, on-site manufacturing environment.

- Strong strategic acumen in vendor development, including the ability to negotiate complex contracts and build long-term partnerships with suppliers.

- Comprehensive knowledge of export regulations and international trade protocols relevant to the defence and industrial manufacturing sectors.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for navigating stakeholder expectations and driving organizational change.

- A minimum of 30 years of professional experience in manufacturing operations, demonstrating consistent career progression and sustained impact.
