By building and preserving affordable housing through new construction, renovations, and home repairs, Habitat LA is transforming communities throughout Los Angeles County. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is seeking a detail oriented Design Coordinator to support the design, planning, and permitting of residential housing projects. This position coordinates with local municipalities, utility companies, consultants, contractors, and internal departments to help move projects from initial design through permit approval and construction.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate project activities with local municipalities, utility companies, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and internal Habitat LA departments to support timely project completion.
- Monitor permit applications, plan-check comments, required corrections, approvals, utility coordination, and key project milestones.
- Assist with the preparation, review, and coordination of residential plans, drawings, specifications, and supporting project documents.
- Prepare and submit permit applications, construction documents, utility applications, and other required materials to applicable agencies.
- Assist in resolution of questions and changes during the course of construction.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
SUMMARY OF JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, and a background check
- Must have access to reliable transportation to perform job duties, a valid CA Driver’s License, and meet the state-required amount of personal automobile liability insurance
- Must have a reliable internet connection
- Bacheors degree, or working toward a Master's degree, in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field- or equivalent professiossional experience
- Familiarity with Type V-B Construcion, residental building code, single-family and multifamily residential housing types, construction documents, and municipal permitting expenses
- Drafting experience and Revit/BIM proficinecy strongly recommended
- Strong graphic skills and 3D visualization and rendering skills are a plus
- One to three years of experience supporting residential design, permitting, architecture, engineering, construction, or project coordination preferred
- Familiarity with residential construction documents, building plans, and municipal permitting processes
- Experience coordinating with public agencies, utility companies, consultants, contractors, or multidisciplinary project teams preferred
- Strong organizational and project-tracking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities
- Ability to read and understand architectural drawings, site plans, and basic construction documents
- Basic understanding of task sequencing and the critical path
- Poractive self started, adaptable to change, a strong learner with genuine curiosity, and a clear, direct communicator who shares updates and feedback openly
- Passionate about socially impactful desigs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with agencies, consultants, and internal staff.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing applications, reviewing documents, and maintaining project records
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and follow through on assignments with limited supervision
- Ability to identify project issues, gather relevant information, and assist with developing practical solutions

COMPENSATION
Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.00
Salary offers are based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, experience, and qualifications. Offers are between the entry to mid-level range.
