Design Draftsperson

Overview

The Design Draftsperson is responsible for producing accurate, detailed, and code-compliant construction drawings for custom residential projects. This role supports the design team by translating design intent into high-quality technical documentation while maintaining company drafting standards, meeting project deadlines, and coordinating with internal teams and consultants.

A successful Design Draftsperson is detail-oriented, organized, responsive to feedback, and takes ownership of producing complete and accurate drawing sets. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate architectural drawings and construction documents using Revit.
  • Produce highly accurate as-builts and field measure sometimes complex homes and buildings.
  • Develop permit and construction drawing sets based on the Designer's direction.
  • Revise drawings promptly based on internal reviews, consultant feedback, and jurisdiction comments.
  • Coordinate with designers, consultants, and internal team members to ensure accurate and complete construction documents.
  • Ensure drawings comply with applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and company drafting standards.
  • Perform quality control reviews to minimize drafting errors and omissions.
  • Identify potential design or constructability issues and communicate them proactively to the project team.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Meet assigned project deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Collaborates effectively with the Design, Production, BIM, and Consultant teams to ensure coordinated, buildable documents.
  • Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and proactive communication throughout every project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of residential drafting experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit; experience with SketchUp, D5 Render, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, California building codes, permitting, and construction documentation.
  • Excellent architectural detailing skills with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for reviewing plans and drawings.
