Design Engineer – Custom Development for Projects

What's the role?

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, calculation, and creation of manufacturing documentation for new products that complement the Hilti Installation Systems portfolio. This includes both custom-designed solutions and the selection of suitable products from approved suppliers' catalogues.

You will also play an important role in supplier communication and quality assurance, ensuring delivered products meet Hilti standards and specifications.

What does the role involve?

• Designing and calculating metal components in accordance with applicable standards or using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods.
• Creating manufacturing drawings and technical documentation using 3D CAD systems.
• Developing user manuals and technical documentation for newly designed special products.
• Preparing detailed installation instructions for Hilti Installation Systems used by subcontractors performing pre-assembly activities.
• Collaborating closely with the sales organization and working with global development teams.
• Identifying, selecting, monitoring, and developing an optimal supplier portfolio.
• Negotiating with suppliers regarding lead times, manufacturing costs, and technical specifications.
• Conducting supplier audits and process reviews based on Hilti-defined quality and process requirements.
• Ensuring delivered products meet quality standards and technical specifications.

What do you need?

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (secondary technical education or university degree).
• Knowledge of FEA methods and tools such as Ansys or CATIA.
• Strong engineering mindset and a responsible approach to work.
• Practical experience with 3D CAD systems such as NX (Unigraphics), Inventor, or SolidWorks. Training on the specific tools used in the role will be provided as part of onboarding.
• Experience in the development and design of metal products.
• English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as cutting, forming, punching, welding, and coating.
• Knowledge of manufacturing quality control methods, including dimensional measurement tools and techniques.
