Design Engineer II
The Design Engineer II is responsible for leading the design and development of aftermarket automotive performance products from concept through production. This role applies engineering principles to develop innovative, manufacturable, and validated products while working closely with testing, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and production teams.
The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, extensive automotive knowledge, and the ability to independently manage projects while mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new aftermarket automotive products using SolidWorks, including 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs
- Lead engineering projects from concept through production release while maintaining schedule and project objectives
- Apply engineering principles including materials, mechanics, thermodynamics, and manufacturing processes to optimize product performance, durability, and cost
- Perform reverse engineering using 3D scanning, CMM, CAD modeling, and physical measurements
- Develop and execute product validation plans including vehicle testing, durability testing, and performance evaluations
- Review prototype and production components to verify design intent and manufacturing quality
- Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to support manufacturability, sourcing, and product launch
- Support technicians during prototype installation, troubleshooting, and product validation
- Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, RFQs, test reports, and revision records
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to Engineering Technicians and junior engineers
- Communicate project status, technical risks, and design decisions with cross-functional teams
- Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and product quality
