Summary

Oversee and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams for rail and metro infrastructure projects, ensuring integrated, high-quality outputs from concept to detailed design while managing interfaces, risks, and stakeholder expectations.

WSP is seeking a skilled individual to support the Design and Engineering Management function on multidisciplinary project delivery, from concept stage through to detailed design.

The role focuses on coordinating and delivering design outputs across multiple disciplines, supporting best practices in design production, coordination, and integration.

Accountabilities include design coordination, technical delivery support, and stakeholder engagement, with a proactive and hands-on approach to ensuring high-quality, integrated design outcomes.

  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design delivery across all project stages, ensuring integrated and high-quality outputs

  • Coordinate design interfaces, inputs, assumptions, and constraints across technical disciplines

  • Support delivery of design scope to agreed programme, budget, and quality requirements

  • Identify, track, and manage design risks, issues, and changes, ensuring timely resolution and communication

  • Support implementation of design management plans, processes, and governance requirements

  • Participate in design reviews, assurance processes, and technical coordination forums to ensure compliance with standards and client requirements

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and stakeholders to facilitate design progression and decision-making

  • Contribute to design reporting, documentation, and maintenance of audit trail for decisions and deliverables

  • Monitor design progress and implement corrective actions where necessary

  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and support a collaborative, delivery-focused team environment

  • Drive innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.

  • Participate in technical reviews and design assurance activities.

  • Proactively manage stakeholder expectations and resolve design-related issues.

  • Support engineering assurance and approval processes.

  • Ensure all deliverables undergo necessary quality and technical reviews before submission.

  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary design teams.

  • Manage workload allocation and resource utilization.

  • Delivery of design packages as per agreed programme.

Key Competencies / Skills

  • Experience in metro and rail infrastructure projects, including station design, with a good understanding of multidisciplinary design requirements and delivery environments

  • Strong design coordination capability, with the ability to organise, track, and integrate inputs across multiple disciplines

  • Proven ability to manage complex design interfaces and stakeholder interactions, ensuring alignment across internal teams, consultants, and clients

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective coordination, clear reporting, and facilitation of design discussions

  • Proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving, risk management, and delivery, with a focus on achieving project outcomes

  • Preferably Chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised professional institution, demonstrating commitment to professional and technical excellence

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in design coordination on large-scale infrastructure and metro projects, supporting delivery across complex multidisciplinary environments

  • Proven involvement in progressing designs through the full project lifecycle, from concept and preliminary stages through to detailed design and issue of coordinated deliverables

  • Experience supporting design management processes, including design planning, coordination, interface management, and progress tracking in line with programme and project requirements

  • Familiarity with engineering design and deliverables, including reports, drawings, and specifications developed in accordance with relevant codes, standards, and project requirements

  • Strong exposure to multidisciplinary project environments, including working across engineering, architectural, and specialist disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions

  • Experience in design assurance and quality processes, including participation in design reviews, checking, verification, and compliance with QA/QC systems

  • Understanding of Safe by Design principles, HSE requirements, and constructability considerations, supporting safe and practical engineering solutions

  • Experience coordinating across internal teams, external consultants, and stakeholders, supporting effective communication and resolution of design interfaces

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Architecture

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)

  • ICE/IET/IRSE

  • PMI/PMP Certification

  • APM Qualification
