Design Project Manager
Summary
An on-site Design Project Manager in Auburn Hills, MI who owns engineering design projects end to end — machines, controls, robots, and mechanical/thermal/hydraulic systems — ensuring Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety targets, managing budgets, and coordinating with customers, CAD/engineering, and management using lean, kaizen, 5S, and ISO practices.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities· Lead the research and analysis of data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. · Oversee the design of products or systems including controls, robots, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems. · Ensure the design of products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software. · Ensure projects achieve company targets for Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety. · Participate in and support 5S, QS, kaizen, and lean manufacturing activities. · Take responsibility for the overall direction and output of designated projects. · Maintain a strong understanding of HIROTEC America database and ISO requirements. · Follow up on communications to ensure desired outcomes are achieved. · Provide guidance and structure for changes, new directions, new processes, and new product introductions. · Communicate with appropriate individuals and groups as necessary (e.g., customer service, department supervisors, employees, purchasing, CAD/engineering, management). · Review financial status of projects with upper management. · Work with assigned manpower to control project expenditures within the scope of work. · Report QDCS (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Safety) for each project as required. · Proactively assess project quality and take appropriate corrective measures. · Ensure employee adherence to company policies and procedures (e.g., security, housekeeping, use of current and new equipment). · Ensure employee adherence to company safety regulations. · Recommend improvements to increase man and machine efficiencies and product quality. · Maintain strong customer interface and satisfaction. · Understand mechanical and controls design to process intent; improve processes and margins. · Negotiate engineering changes. · Be available for emergency contact on weeknights and weekends if assigned a company cell phone. · Responsible for oversight of multiple design sources to complete all tasks. · Perform other duties and projects as assigned. |
