Olympic Health and Recovery Services (OHRS) is seeking a Designated Crisis Responder to work alongside the Lacey Police Department as a Co-Responder. We are a dynamic and rapidly growing organization serving the most vulnerable in our communities. We need more team members to join us in our mission to provide access to an effective, reliable safety net of behavioral health crisis and recovery support services throughout our region. The Designated Crisis Responder (DCR) is a Mental Health Professional (MPH) responsible for providing care to meet the physical and psychological needs in crisis and emergency situations, and providing Involuntary Treatment Assessments (ITA) to the community. This position also facilitates mobile crisis intervention, clinical assessments, and stabilization services directly to adults, children, and families. ITA is provided according to RCW 71.05 and 71.34 for individuals through direct and indirect services in a manner consistent with Rehabilitation and Recovery principles. Law Enforcement Co-Responders are a resource for Law Enforcement to utilize when responding to calls with a mental health component to it. The incumbent performs crisis intervention to reduce hospitalizations, and effectively link consumers with on-going mental support services. This position will work directly out of the Lacey Police Department. Primary response to ITA assessments is in the Lacey area, and the Thurston County region.

Law Enforcement Co-Responders will cultivate contacts and establish and maintain positive, effective, collaborative working relationships with Law Enforcement personnel and agencies, emergency medical response agencies, court systems, community leaders, public health departments, state, federal and local agencies, homeless shelters, community services and faith-based groups in an effort to care for and assist individuals with chronic behavioral health disorders in need of social services.

Salary Range: $40.01 - $52.91 per hour DOE based on years' experience as MHP. (This position is eligible for shift differential ($1/HR. evenings, $3/HR. weekends and nights).

Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday; 12PM – 10PM

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs ITA investigations, evaluations, and associated DCR tasks, including petition writing, testifying in court, the monitoring and petitioning for LRA’s.
  • Provides mobile crisis intervention services in varied environments in the community.
  • Develops individualized safety plans and treatment recommendations to ensure client and community safety.
  • When in the community, must not physically interact with clients in the event of assaultive behavior, but work to maintain safety in accordance with the principles of crisis de-escalation and safety training.
  • Takes and triages referrals for crisis and ITA and provides crisis phone intervention services.
  • Performs other behavioral health evaluations including intake evaluations, school requested evaluations, jail requested evaluations, court-ordered evaluations, as needed.
  • Demonstrate the OHRS mission, purpose, values and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides crisis case management and brief therapy.
  • Performs ITA investigations, evaluations, and associated DCR tasks, including petition writing, testifying in court, the monitoring and petitioning for LRA’s.
  • Provides support to other agency clinicians in the form of consultation and assistance with joint outreach.
  • Maintains familiarity with and handles client information in accordance with Federal Regulations (42 CFR, Part 2), the Revised Code of Washington (RCW 71.05.390 and RCW 71.24), and other applicable laws pertaining to confidentiality of client and staff information.
  • Maintains physical security of confidential materials and assigned agency property.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of electronic medical record system.
  • Provides information and education to the community regarding behavioral health and involuntary commitment laws.
  • Maintains timely and accurate documentation in accordance with Washington State law and current best practices.
  • Provides report to team members at the conclusion of their shift.
  • Reviews referral board regularly and responds promptly.
  • Attends clinical supervision meetings on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.

Co-Responders:

  • Develop a network of working relationships with Thurston County Jail, Mason County Jail, Nisqually Jail, behavioral health treatment providers, emergency housing providers, Lacey Veterans Services Hub, Community Lifeline, other Law Enforcement agencies and social service providers.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with the population served.
  • Provide information, consultation, and referral.
  • Monitor contact behaviors and progress, provide assistance toward attaining pre-determined goals, and schedule appointments.
  • Follow-up with identified individuals in an effort to bridge gaps between law enforcement and/or emergency medical contacts and social service providers.
  • Develop and recommend procedures for identifying and screening people with social service needs.
