Position Summary
Join our partner firm, KFM Engineering & Design, as a Designer and contribute to impactful land development and infrastructure projects across Texas. In this role, you will support the preparation and development of civil engineering plans, designs, and technical documents for a variety of projects, including site development, utility layout, grading and drainage, and related infrastructure.
You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to develop accurate, high-quality design solutions while gaining valuable experience and expanding your technical skills. Depending on your level of experience, you may take on increasing responsibility for design development, plan production, and coordination.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare and develop civil engineering design plans, drawings, exhibits, and technical documents for land development and infrastructure projects.
- Assist with the design and drafting of site layouts, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, roadway improvements, and related civil infrastructure.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software to develop accurate and detailed plan sets in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Review survey information, existing conditions, and other technical data to support the development of project designs.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, surveyors, and other team members to coordinate design elements and resolve technical issues.
- Incorporate engineering markups, revisions, and client or agency comments into project plans and documents.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings and design documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Assist with preparing permit drawings, plan submissions, and supporting documentation for regulatory and agency review.
- Maintain organized project files, drawings, and documentation in accordance with company standards.
- Communicate effectively with project team members regarding project status, design requirements, and outstanding items.
- Meet established project schedules and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and quality.
- Continue developing technical knowledge, design skills, and familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Depending on experience level, take increasing responsibility for complex design tasks, coordinate work with other designers, and provide guidance or mentoring to junior team members.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in civil engineering design, drafting, or land development preferred; experience requirements will vary based on Designer level.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D required or the ability to develop proficiency within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience preparing civil engineering plans and construction documents for land development, infrastructure, utilities, grading, drainage, or related projects preferred.
- Understanding of basic civil engineering principles, drafting standards, and plan development practices.
- Ability to interpret survey information, engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design work.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments, prioritize workload, and meet project deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, surveyors, and other team members.
- Ability to identify design inconsistencies or potential issues and communicate them to the appropriate project team members.
- Willingness to learn new design techniques, software, standards, and industry practices.
- Ability to work independently while also taking direction and feedback from senior team members.
- For higher-level Designer positions, demonstrated experience independently developing complex design plans, coordinating design components, reviewing work for accuracy, and providing guidance to less-experienced designers is preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and industry design standards and permitting requirements is preferred.
