Business Job Title: Designer III
Job Summary: The qualified candidate will have the opportunity to be the primary designer on multiple product development projects and bring innovative solutions to life through various phases of product life cycles - concept to production. The culture empowers the candidate to be “Entrepreneurial” with a heavy “Bias for Action and Trust”. The scope of responsibility will include supporting new product development from initial concept ideation and development, supplier and manufacturing collaboration, testing, and production launch by applying design engineering principles and practices. Multiple project activities will be successfully managed in parallel. The qualified candidate will be tasked to understand, determine, and optimize design trade-offs to balance performance and cost for their assigned tasks.
Job Responsibilities:
- Concept ideation, generation, and prototyping
- Creation of CAD models, drawings, report and documentation
- Maintaining relevant product attributes data within supporting databases and Product Lifecycle Management software
- Optimize existing products for performance improvement, cost reduction, and/or code compliance
- Planning for and transitioning products for obsolescence
- Function as design lead for minor projects with limited oversight
- Coordinate with lead project engineer and test laboratory to validate designs
- Assist design engineers in the development of highly complex components, assemblies, products and prototypes.
- Support best engineering practices (DFMEA, DOE, etc.). Create best practices and design guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Associate of Science degree or higher in a technical discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Evaluate the technical feasibility of new product concepts and potential modifications to existing products.
- Recent PTC Creo software proficiency is required, minimum 5 years hands-on 3D modeling experience required.
- Must be able to create complex models and assemblies, using best practices, without oversight.
- Experience designing sheet metal and plastic components and integrating electromechanical components.
- Ability to interpret complex sets of product requirements and innovate and apply them to designs.
- Demonstrated ability to perform tolerance stack-ups on complex assemblies.
- Create engineering drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5. Review, interpret, and mark-up or change Engineering drawings.
- Experience and proficiency creating/managing Bill of Material (BOM) structures using best practices.
- Experience working in a Product Data Management (PDM) system. Ability to check out objects into workspace, perform assigned design activities, and check back in, without oversight.
- Ability to author and manage Engineering Change Notifications (ECN’s) through a workflow process.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage projects and work in a project team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on business priorities.
- Receive minimal direction, but exercise discretion as to time management, independently identifying, prioritizing and executing tasks. Must possess strong initiative and drive in meeting project milestones and completing deliverables.
- Proven experience supporting a wide variety and volume of projects with high complexity.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate through verbal, written, and electronic means. Must have proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- The work requires the ability to lift, carry and rotate 180 degrees materials and products
- The position requires the ability to read electronic and manual gauges and record information in bright and low light environments.
- The position requires the knowledge and ability to use PC computers and keyboards.
