Developer Relations Engineer
Summary
This Developer Relations Engineer role involves creating technical content, reference implementations, and demos for AI and orchestration technologies. The position requires a hands-on engineer to engage with the developer community, provide product feedback, and represent the company at events.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Developer Relations Engineer based in the United States.
This is a high-impact, hands-on Developer Relations role focused on helping developers understand, adopt, and build with modern orchestration and AI technologies.
You’ll combine software engineering, technical education, content creation, and community engagement in a highly visible role.
The position centers on creating production-quality reference implementations, demos, documentation, talks, and technical videos.
You’ll work closely with product and engineering teams while new AI and agentic capabilities are still evolving.
As a first user of the products, you’ll identify developer experience gaps and translate real-world friction into actionable product feedback.
The role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys being public-facing while continuing to write and ship code regularly.
You’ll join a remote-first, high-performance environment with significant autonomy and opportunities to influence an emerging developer ecosystem.
Accountabilities:
- Build and maintain production-quality reference implementations, including MCP servers, authenticated configurations, agentic workflows, and other examples that developers can confidently adapt for real-world use.
- Create clear, technically rigorous educational content through blog posts, documentation, demonstrations, conference talks, livestreams, podcasts, and video.
- Own the technical side of video content, determining what to build and demonstrating complex workflows in an engaging and accessible format.
- Serve as a practitioner-facing representative at conferences, community events, livestreams, and within Python, AI, MCP, and developer communities.
- Work directly with product and engineering teams to explain evolving products and capabilities while they are still being developed.
- Act as an early and demanding user of the platform by identifying usability issues, documentation gaps, bugs, and developer experience opportunities, then contributing fixes and improvements where appropriate.
- Translate community feedback, developer challenges, emerging trends, and product friction into actionable recommendations for engineering and product teams.
- Operate with significant autonomy, determining what technical projects and content will create the greatest value without relying on a predefined content calendar.
- Continue writing and reviewing code regularly while balancing technical execution with public-facing Developer Relations responsibilities.
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong Python skills preferred, and a willingness to remain deeply hands-on with code.
- A public portfolio of high-quality technical work, such as open-source repositories, technical articles, documentation, conference presentations, or developer-focused videos.
- Demonstrated experience building with LLMs and agentic technologies, including MCP servers, tool calling, agent frameworks, retrieval, or related systems.
- Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts clearly to experienced developers through written, spoken, and visual formats.
- Strong on-camera and public-speaking skills, or clear evidence of the ability and willingness to develop these skills.
- Ability to work independently, identify high-value opportunities, build solutions, ship them, and evaluate their impact without close oversight.
- Strong product and developer empathy, with the ability to identify where technical tools or workflows create friction for users.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a popular open-source project is a plus.
- An established developer audience through platforms such as YouTube, X, Twitch, newsletters, or other technical communities is a plus.
- Experience with data engineering or orchestration technologies such as Prefect, Dagster, Airflow, or dbt is advantageous.
- Familiarity with enterprise platform and security concepts such as SSO, RBAC, audit logs, and PII is beneficial.
- Comfortable working in an environment where product direction can evolve quickly and where ambiguity is part of the role.
- Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, and adaptability skills, with a genuine interest in building and supporting developer communities.
- Competitive base salary based on location:
- San Francisco Bay Area & NYC Metro: $165,000–$219,000
- Washington D.C., Boston, LA Metro & Seattle: $150,000–$194,000
- Denver, Chicago, Atlanta & other U.S. metros: $149,000–$193,000
- Equity stock options in addition to base compensation.
- Remote-first work environment with a flexible-first culture.
- 401(k) plan with a 5% company match, vested immediately.
- Unlimited paid time off.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Generous parental leave.
- Life insurance and disability benefits.
- $800/month remote work stipend.
- Opportunities to attend industry events, engage with technical communities, and build a visible professional presence.
- Travel support for conferences and other events, along with periodic time in a recording studio.
- A supportive, high-performance environment focused on autonomy, professional growth, inclusion, and meaningful impact.
- Commitment to belongingness and equal employment opportunity across diverse backgrounds and identities.
