DevOps & Cloud Architect
Salary: RM 7,000 – RM 8,000 per month
About us
BeED is an award-winning EdTech company building a next-generation learning ecosystem that combines Learning Management Systems (LMS), experiential learning, AI technologies, and scalable SaaS solutions. In BeED, you will be part of an amazing culture with teammates who care. You will grow here more than anywhere else as we constantly challenge our team to think outside the box, and continuously explore new things.
About the role
The DevOps & Cloud Architect will own the architecture and evolution of BeED's AWS environments, DevOps practices, infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, cloud operations, and platform reliability. The role will help engineering teams deliver secure, scalable, highly available, and cost-effective SaaS and AI-powered applications.
The successful candidate should have deep practical expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, containers, microservices, observability, security, disaster recovery, high availability, performance, and cloud cost optimisation.
Experience in software architecture and application design is an added advantage, enabling closer alignment between application architecture and cloud infrastructure; it is not a prerequisite for the role.
The position works closely with Software Architects, Technical Business Analysts, Engineering Managers, Developers, QA Engineers, AI Engineers, and Product teams.
Key responsibilities
1. Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure
• Design, implement, and maintain secure, highly available, resilient, and scalable cloud environments on AWS.
• Architect and standardise development, testing, staging, and production environments, including networking, compute, storage, databases, and access control.
• Define cloud architecture principles, infrastructure standards, capacity planning, and operational best practices.
• Develop and test disaster recovery, backup, failover, and business continuity strategies; improve reliability and service recovery readiness.
2. DevOps Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code
• Design, implement, and maintain reproducible infrastructure using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and/or AWS CDK.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, deployments, infrastructure changes, and environment lifecycle management.
• Reduce manual processes, configuration drift, and operational risk through reusable automation and consistent standards.
3. CI/CD & Release Engineering
• Build, secure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, and AWS CodePipeline.
• Integrate automated build, testing, code quality, security checks, and release controls into delivery workflows.
• Implement blue-green/canary deployment strategies, automated rollback, and zero- or minimal-downtime releases where appropriate.
• Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to improve release frequency, stability, traceability, and recovery time.
4. Microservices & Distributed Systems — Critical
• Architect and support cloud-native microservices infrastructure in partnership with BeED’s Software Architects and engineering teams.
• Establish robust patterns for API gateways, service discovery, load balancing, service-to-service communication, resilience, and horizontal scaling.
• Support asynchronous processing and event-driven integration using message queues and AWS services such as SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
• Support responsible modernisation of monolithic applications into modular services or microservices where technically and commercially justified.
• Apply distributed-systems principles to availability, fault tolerance, latency, throughput, and operational troubleshooting.
5. Containers & Orchestration
• Build, operate, and improve containerised environments using Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and/or Amazon ECS with Fargate.
• Configure orchestration, auto-scaling, health checks, service discovery, load balancing, secure deployment, and cluster/platform monitoring.
6. AWS Cloud Services Architecture
Apply hands-on knowledge of relevant AWS services, including:
• Compute: EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, Auto Scaling.
• Networking and delivery: VPC, Route 53, CloudFront, Elastic Load Balancing, Transit Gateway.
• Storage: S3, EBS, EFS, Glacier / S3 Glacier storage classes.
• Data: RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache.
• Messaging and events: SQS, SNS, EventBridge.
• Operations and governance: CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config.
• Security: IAM, KMS, WAF, Secrets Manager, Security Hub.
7. Monitoring, Logging & Observability
• Design and manage observability solutions using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, and/or OpenTelemetry.
• Implement centralised logs, metrics, traces, actionable alerting, dashboards, and service-level monitoring.
• Lead technical incident investigation, root-cause analysis, remediation, and continuous reliability improvements.
8. Security, DevSecOps & Recovery
• Embed security controls and automated checks throughout infrastructure and delivery workflows.
• Enforce least-privilege IAM, secrets management, encryption, secure configurations, and sound network security.
• Conduct vulnerability reviews, remediate infrastructure risks, and support security governance and audit readiness.
• Perform and document backup-restore, disaster recovery, and failover tests.
9. Performance Optimisation & Cloud Cost Management — Critical
• Continuously analyse infrastructure utilisation, architecture efficiency, application performance, and AWS spend.
• Implement rightsizing, appropriate Savings Plans/Reserved Instances, suitable Spot usage, auto-scaling improvements, and storage lifecycle policies.
• Promote FinOps practices, cost visibility, resource tagging, ownership, and data-driven optimisation.
• Deliver measurable reductions in avoidable cloud expenditure while protecting reliability, security, availability, and performance.
• Support performance and capacity planning for high-concurrency, mission-critical learning and assessment workloads.
10. Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Own cloud/DevOps design reviews, technical standards, infrastructure documentation, and operational runbooks.
• Work with Software Architects and engineering teams to align application dependencies, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements with the underlying platform.
• Mentor developers and engineers on cloud engineering, automation, security, and operational best practices.
• Champion automation-first engineering, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and operational accountability.
11. On-Call & Production Support
· Participate in an on-call rotation for production incidents affecting the learning platform. This includes after-hours response during critical periods such as exam windows and major releases.
· Serve as the escalation point for infrastructure-related P1/P2 incidents, coordinating with engineering and QA until service is restored.
· Lead post-incident reviews and document root cause, remediation and preventive actions.
· Continuously reduce on-call load through better alerting, automation and self-healing infrastructure.
12. Software Architecture Collaboration — Added Advantage
• Candidates with previous experience as a Software Architect, Solution Architect, or senior software engineer involved in application architecture will be especially valued.
• Where relevant, contribute to discussions on application modularity, domain/service boundaries, API design, data flows, event-driven patterns, and architecture trade-offs.
• Advise on how application design decisions affect AWS deployment topology, scalability, resilience, performance, maintainability, observability, and cost.
• Help align BeED’s application modernisation initiatives with a practical, sustainable cloud-native operating model.
• This experience is desirable and complementary to the role; BeED does not require the DevOps & Cloud Architect to replace or assume full ownership of the Software Architect function.
