DevOps / Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Summary
This DevOps/Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at Wariverse in Johannesburg owns deployment, monitoring, and reliability across several production codebases, not just one app. Day to day it centers on CI/CD pipelines, queue workers, zero-downtime deploys, cloud/PaaS hosting, and operating multiple relational database engines.
About The Role
We run several codebases in production across different environments, and this role owns deployment, monitoring, and reliability across all of them, not a single app. This is a high-stakes, high-autonomy role for someone who thinks in failure modes before they happen.
What You’ll Need
- 3-4+ years of DevOps/infrastructure experience with production web applications
- Personal infrastructure projects, a homelab, or open-source contributions are welcomed as proof of skill, since job titles alone don't tell us enough
- Strong grasp of CI/CD pipelines, queue workers, and zero-downtime deploys
- Experience operating more than one relational database engine in production
- Experience with cloud/PaaS hosting for modern backend stacks, and webhook/queue reliability, including idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling
Nice to Have
- Python, Go, or Rust for infrastructure tooling and scripting
- Observability tooling experience for a team without a dedicated SRE function
- Experience hardening webhook endpoints against replay/signature attacks
Who We're Looking For
- You fix things before anyone notices they're broken.
- You’d rather automate your own job out of boredom than repeat a manual step twice.
- You're comfortable being the only infrastructure person in the building, and you build just enough process, never more than that.
