DevOps / ELK Engineer

Junior Elasticsearch & Observability Engineer administering and evolving enterprise observability built on the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats, Elastic Agents) across mainframe, open systems, and container platforms — running monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and application onboarding under senior guidance.
We are looking for a Junior Elasticsearch & Observability Engineer to join our team and support the deployment, maintenance, and evolution of enterprise observability solutions across diverse environments, including Mainframe, Open Systems, and Container Platforms.
In this role, you will work closely with experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience with the Elastic Stack and modern observability practices while contributing to platform stability, monitoring, and application onboarding initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the administration, maintenance, and enhancement of the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats, and Elastic Agents).
- Execute operational procedures and runbooks for platform monitoring, health checks, routine maintenance, and alert validation across development, testing, and production environments.
- Assist application teams with onboarding and integrating their services into the observability platform.
- Configure and maintain dashboards, log collection pipelines, monitoring, and alerting solutions.
- Participate in software releases and incident resolution activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the adoption of coding standards, governance processes, and CI/CD best practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of operational activities, platform updates, and issue resolutions.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, providing regular updates on progress and activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Up to 2 years of experience in IT operations, system administration, monitoring, or observability-related environments.
- Basic understanding of Agile methodologies and ITIL/incident management processes is considered an advantage.
- Foundational knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems, including command-line usage, file systems, and system performance metrics (CPU, memory, and storage).
- Professional proficiency in English (C1 level), both written and spoken, is mandatory.
- French and/or Dutch language skills are a plus.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of core observability concepts, including logs, metrics, traces, and the Four Golden Signals.
- Knowledge of or strong interest in learning the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats, Elastic Agents) and OpenTelemetry.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and basic CI/CD concepts.
- Exposure to container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and REST APIs is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of IT security principles, including authentication and access management.
- Experience with collaboration and ticketing tools such as Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, and Microsoft Office.
