Summary

Senior DevOps/SRE engineer owning CI/CD pipelines, Azure cloud infrastructure (AKS), GitOps, observability, and reliability for a cloud-native digital-identity platform serving airlines and airports. Hybrid role in Carnaxide, Lisbon (50% onsite), working with Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions/GitLab, ArgoCD/FluxCD, and Helm.

Challenge yourself and us

At AdvanceWorks, we learn together, grow together, and have fun together. And we do all this while creating great software solutions for clients across many industries and geographies.

We are constantly challenging ourselves and each other to use the latest technologies and the best methodologies and make sure we walk the talk.

About the project

You’ll join a cloud-native platform helping airlines and airports simplify passenger verification and border compliance through digital identity technologies.

The platform runs on Microsoft Azure and supports highly available mobile and backend services used in a demanding, business-critical environment.

As the platform continues to scale and evolve, we’re looking for a Senior DevOps / SRE Engineer to help strengthen its reliability, automation, security, and operational excellence.

You’ll work closely with international backend, mobile, and technology teams, helping build a platform that is more scalable, resilient, observable, and efficient.

What will be your role

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps / SRE Engineer who enjoys being hands-on, solving complex technical challenges, and making things work better.

You’ll take ownership of the platform’s CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, automation, deployments, observability, and reliability, helping the teams deliver faster and more safely.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies, including Azure, Kubernetes, GitOps, Terraform, and CI/CD, while contributing to the continuous evolution of the platform.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have a real impact, take ownership, challenge the status quo, and bring new ideas — including the use of AI and automation — to improve the way DevOps and platform engineering are done.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Building, maintaining, and continuously improving CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and GitLab.
  • Implementing and evolving GitOps practices using technologies such as ArgoCD, FluxCD, and Helm.
  • Automating build, testing, integration, and deployment processes across environments.
  • Managing and improving Azure cloud infrastructure, including AKS, storage, and networking.
  • Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Managing Docker and Kubernetes environments, ensuring scalability, resilience, and reliability.
  • Improving monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability across the platform.
  • Integrating security into the DevOps lifecycle, including secrets management with HashiCorp Vault.
  • Managing artifact repositories such as Artifactory and NuGet.
  • Supporting performance, load, and stress testing to ensure the platform is ready to scale.
  • Supporting production incidents and helping drive root-cause analysis and long-term improvements.
  • Working closely with backend and mobile teams to improve delivery and operational processes.
  • Identifying opportunities for automation, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Exploring and applying AI-driven approaches to CI/CD, infrastructure, automation, and platform operations.
  • Availability to work in a hybrid model in Carnaxide, Lisbon, with 50% weekly onsite presence (2/3x)

What should you bring to the team?

  • Solid experience in DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering, or a similar role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure, ideally including AKS.
  • Good experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab, or similar CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with GitOps, ideally ArgoCD, FluxCD, and/or Helm.
  • Good understanding of observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management.
  • Experience with cloud-native and distributed systems.
  • Experience with performance, load, or stress testing is a plus.
  • A strong hands-on and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to take ownership and work independently.
  • Proactive attitude and a genuine interest in automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with international and multicultural teams.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Curiosity and willingness to explore how AI can improve DevOps, automation, and platform engineering.

Nice to have

  • Experience in SRE, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering.
  • Experience working with high-availability or business-critical platforms.
  • Strong Kubernetes and Azure knowledge.
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, or similar observability tools.
  • Experience with DevSecOps and security within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Helm, ArgoCD, FluxCD, or similar GitOps technologies.
  • Experience with HashiCorp Vault or other secrets management solutions.
  • Previous experience in travel, aviation, financial services, or other complex technology environments.
  • Relevant Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, DevOps, or SRE certifications.
  • Experience using AI tools or solutions to improve engineering and operational processes.

What is in it for you

• An amazing informal culture of smart, hardworking, and friendly people who support and care about each other.

• A mentorship program from day one.

• The opportunity to work with real-world operational data from tolling and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

• The opportunity to work on large-scale data and cloud projects using modern technologies.

• Formal training and certifications in data, cloud, and engineering excellence.
