DevOps Engineer

Summary

Mid-level DevOps engineer maintains and modernizes a hybrid infrastructure for a Netherlands fintech client, migrating from VMs to a Kubernetes-first AWS architecture using Terraform and Ansible.

We are seeking an experienced Medior DevOps Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be embedded in a long-term service engagement with a Netherlands-based fintech company, responsible for the day-to-day operation and reliability of a complex hybrid infrastructure environment. In addition to operational responsibilities, the engineer will actively participate in a significant infrastructure modernisation project — consolidating an existing VM-based environment into a unified, Kubernetes-first architecture on AWS, managed with Terraform, commencing within the next six months.

The role requires close collaboration with our CTO as well as direct communication with the client in English. All technical documentation, runbooks, incident reports, and project deliverables are produced in English.

This is a hands-on, ownership-oriented position. It is not a ticket-processing role.

Upcoming Project: Infrastructure Modernisation

Over the next six months, we will begin the migration of the TransIP environment into AWS, adopting a Kubernetes-first, Terraform-managed architecture targeting AWS EKS. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and execution of this migration — not merely inherit a finished result.

Experience with Kubernetes and Terraform is considered a strong advantage. Candidates who possess a solid foundation in Linux and AWS, and who demonstrate the motivation and aptitude to build Kubernetes expertise, are equally encouraged to apply.

Essential:

  • 2–4 years of hands-on Linux infrastructure experience (Ubuntu, Bash scripting, server administration)
  • Demonstrable Ansible skills — playbook authoring, role structure, and inventory management
  • Practical AWS experience across core services: EC2, RDS, networking, and IAM
  • Proficiency with Docker and CI/CD pipeline operation
  • Strong written and spoken English — all client-facing communication and documentation is conducted in English
  • Methodical approach to problem-solving and incident management
  • Proactive communication and a sense of ownership: issues are raised early, followed through to resolution, and documented thoroughly

Advantageous (not required):

  • Kubernetes / Helm
  • Terraform / IaC design
  • PostgreSQL administration and replication
  • Security tooling — vulnerability scanning, OpenVAS, or equivalent
  • FreeIPA / LDAP administration
