Sr Engineer, Development Ops
Team Overview
Trans Union is a major credit reference agency offering specialist services in fraud, identity and risk management, automated decisioning, and demographics. We support organisations across finance, retail, telecommunications, utilities, gaming, government and insurance. This is a hybrid position involving remote work and in‑person attendance at a Trans Union office for at least two days a week.
Role Overview and Core Responsibilities Technical Expertise
Strong Linux systems administration experience, including firewalls and hardening
Expertise in Docker and container orchestration
Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Ia C) tools, particularly Terraform
Experience with network design, administration, and troubleshooting
Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Java Script, Node.js, PHP)
Experience with version control systems, ideally Git
Web server configuration (Apache, Nginx; knowledge of MSSQL Server is a plus)
Database management (My SQL, Mongo DB) including high‑availability and backup solutions
Hands‑on experience managing cloud providers, with significant experience in AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Familiarity with GCP services such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Storage, Big Query, and IAM
Familiarity with configuration management and IT automation tools
Strong understanding of Dev Ops and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles
Required Knowledge and Experiences Infrastructure & Operations
Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure to ensure reliability, scalability, and security
Support, monitor, and enhance live infrastructure and platform solutions, ensuring high availability and performance
Help plan and execute integration of current infrastructure into Trans Union’s group‑wide cloud platform while minimising disruptions
Participate in migration of infrastructure from AWS to GCP, ensuring a smooth transition and effective use of GCP services
Dev Ops & Security
Maintain robust CI/CD pipelines, collaborating closely with development teams to streamline deployment processes
Maintain and enhance security posture, ensuring compliance with industry standards and frameworks (e.g., SOC‑2, ISO 27001)
Diagnose and resolve infrastructure outages and incidents, ensuring timely resolution and root‑cause analysis
Documentation & Best Practices
Ensure comprehensive documentation of infrastructure, systems, and processes to support onboarding, troubleshooting, and scalability
Promote and implement Dev Ops and SRE best practices across the organisation
Location and Eligibility For positions based in South Africa, preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups in line with the company's Employment Equity plan and targets.
Applicants must reside in a fibre‑ready home with a minimum 100/100 Meg fibre line and access for day‑one work. If successful, you will need to upgrade your line or install fibre on day one.
Some positions require a clear credit record due to the nature of the credit bureau.
