DevOps Engineer
Summary
12-month fixed-term contract via Hays at a private banking and asset management client: own day-to-day support, reliability and deployment of a new client portal, maintaining Angular apps on OpenShift, troubleshooting containers/APIs, and improving CI/CD, security and automation.
At Hays Enterprise Solutions, our mission is to help organisations thrive by supporting their workforce needs. We partner with over thirty large organisations across Australia and New Zealand providing tailored solutions to ensure our clients have unrivalled access to top talent and unique market insights to build their evolving workforces.
Our client, a leading private banking and asset management organisation, is looking for a DevOps Engineer to take technical ownership of a new, next-generation client portal. This is a brand-new role focused on keeping the platform reliable, secure and well supported while continually improving how it is deployed and operated.
Strong Angular capability is the key requirement. You could come from a software engineering, application support or DevOps background. What matters most is that you can work comfortably across Angular applications, production support and modern deployment environments.
12-month fixed-term contract | Sydney or Melbourne preferred.
Why the role matters
The portal gives clients digital access to important services, including viewing their holdings and transacting. As the platform evolves, our client needs someone with the technical capability to support it day to day, troubleshoot issues and help make it increasingly resilient.
You’ll primarily work within the Application Support team, while collaborating with delivery, engineering, platform and Cyber Security teams when releases, incidents or technical issues require broader expertise.
What you’ll gain
This is more than a traditional support position. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of a new client-facing application and influence how it is supported and improved.
The role offers variety across Angular, OpenShift, APIs and integrations, CI/CD, troubleshooting, security and automation, with exposure to Avaloq technology if that’s new to you.
What you’ll do:
Take ownership of the day-to-day operation, reliability, performance, monitoring and continuous improvement of the digital client portal.
Maintain and enhance Angular applications, including components, dependencies, performance, browser compatibility, testing and upgrades.
Diagnose application, browser and container issues, using logs, traces and metrics to identify root causes and sustainable fixes.
Support deployments and troubleshoot OpenShift containers, APIs and integrations, working across support, platform and delivery teams where needed.
Help maintain reliable document generation and distribution processes, including logging, replication, reconciliation, validation, recovery and exception management.
Deliver changes safely through version control, automated testing and CI/CD while working with Cyber Security and QA to improve application resilience and security.
What you’ll bring
Essential:
Strong hands-on Angular experience and the capability to confidently support and improve Angular-based applications.
Experience supporting or developing customer-facing web applications or business-critical enterprise platforms.
Practical knowledge of containerised environments such as OpenShift or Kubernetes.
Understanding of REST APIs, integrations, authentication and application troubleshooting.
Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing and modern software deployment practices.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across production environments.
The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have:
A DevOps engineering background or experience working within DevOps practices.
Avaloq experience, including ACP, AFS or AFP. This is desirable rather than essential and can be learnt on the job.
Experience with tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, GitLab, Argo CD or Ansible.
SQL and experience investigating or reconciling data.
Experience with document generation, replication, reconciliation or distribution.
Banking, wealth management or broader financial-services experience. Industry experience is preferred, not required.
